How To Connect Chamberlain/LiftMaster MyQ Garage Door to Alarm.com

Alarm.com Chamberlain/LiftMaster MyQ Garage Door Integration

Alarm.com has a cloud integration for MyQ garage doors. But I don’t recommend using it. Instead, I recommend using the Ecolink GDZW7-ECO Z-Wave garage door controller, which works with Chamberlain/LiftMaster Security+ 1.0 and (many) 2.0 garage door openers.

Alarm.com MyQ Integration Problems

Here is why I don’t recommend the Alarm.com MyQ Integration

  • When your MyQ garage door is connected to Alarm.com it can’t be used with the MyQ app at the same time. You lose any MyQ features that aren’t available on Alarm.com such as:
    • Amazon & Walmart in-garage delivery
    • Tesla, Honda/Acura, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Mitsubishi, STEER integration
    • IFFFT and other smart-home integrations
  • When your MyQ garage door is connected to Alarm.com it won’t be available in Apple CarPlay or Android Auto because Chamberlain will not allow Alarm.com to control the garage door from a car.
  • Chamberlain charges Alarm.com a MyQ integration fee that gets passed along to you as a $1/month add-on.
  • There have been technical issues with the Alarm.com MyQ integration that have existed for a long time without being fixed.

Ecolink Z-Wave Garage Controller Advantages

With the Ecolink garage door controller you can:

  • Use your garage door on the MyQ app and Alarm.com at the same time
  • Control your MyQ garage door with Alarm.com for Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
  • Avoid the $1/month MyQ add-on for Alarm.com
  • Avoid longstanding Alarm.com MyQ integration problems

Get The Ecolink Z-Wave Garage Controller

The Ecolink garage door controller does cost a little more if you already have a MyQ garage door opener but in my opinion the benefits are well worth the cost. You can get the Ecolink GDZW7-ECO from the Surety Store.

The Ecolink GDZW7-ECO supports Z-Wave Long Range (LR) so it can communicate more reliably with your alarm system, and at a longer distance, than other Z-Wave garage door controllers.

Ecolink GDZW7-ECO Security+ 2.0 Compatibility Issue

Ecolink has found that the GDZW7-ECO has varying success controlling Security+ 2.0 garage door openers manufactured since 2023. It seems Chamberlain may have updated the Security+ 2.0 wireless protocol that year. If your GDZW7-ECO will not control your Chamberlain/LiftMaster garage door opener wirelessly, you can still use the GDZW7-ECO to control it but you also need the Garadget Security+ 2.0 Wired Dry Contact Adapter.

This adapter wires to your garage door opener like a Security+ 2.0 wall button but instead of a physical button it has input wires that you connect to the relay output in the Ecolink GDZW7-ECO. Then follow the Wired instructions in the GDZW7-ECO installation manual.

We are not aware of any compatibility issues with the Garadget Dry Contact Adapter.

Surety does not carry the Garadget Security+ 2.0 Wired Dry Contact Adapter. It can be purchased directly from the Garadget website.

If you prefer wireless control, Garadget also has a Security+ 2.0 Wireless Dry Contact Adapter that can be connected to the GDZW7-ECO relay output just like the wired adapter.

Use the GDZW7-ECO’s built-in Security+ 2.0 wireless control if you can. If that doesn’t work then get a Garadget Security+ 2.0 Wired (or Wireless) Dry Contact Adapter.
