Question about surety video recording

I’m debating on how many cameras and such to buy for the system. Does the system only record when motion is activated? Is there a way to purchase continuous recording?

If there is only motion activated recording how long does it record for and is there a cool down period between recordings? Does the recording continue as long as motion is active? How long are recordings stored for?

Thanks in advance!

Happy to assist!

Does the system only record when motion is activated?

You can create camera-triggered or system-triggered recording rules. The type of recording rules you can create depends on the video camera model and what other devices are associated with the system.

camera triggered clips

  • Video Motion Detection (VMD)
  • Video Analytics

system triggered clips

  • Alarm — a recording rule for this clip type is created for each camera by default for accounts with a security panel
  • Sensor opened/closed
  • System armed/disarmed
  • Entry delay
  • Lock activity
  • Record Now button

The below guide covers how video storage works with Alarm.com:

Is there a way to purchase continuous recording?

Yes-ish. 24/7 Continuous Recording is available with the SVR-122. Unfortunately, the SVR122 has been discontinued due to manufacturing issues, with no replacement. The device is still supported. More information on how this works below:

Additionally, some cameras support Smart View, which leverages a built in SD card slot for 24/7 continuous recording with on board storage. Currently this feature is enabled on all Surety Complete plans only and works with the following cameras only:

  • 1080p Indoor Wi-Fi Camera (ADC-V515) on firmware version 0.0.5.096+
  • 1080p Indoor Wi-Fi Camera (ADC-V523) on firmware version 0.6.1.151+
  • 1080p Outdoor Wi-Fi Camera (ADC-V723) on firmware version 0.6.1.151+

Thanks for the detailed answer.

I have a question about a specific situation hopefully you can answer.

We had ADT previously and they would use motion activated recording for their cameras. However, recording would stop after 30 seconds if the motion continued. So if someone was to drive up to our house the recording would start and stop 30 seconds later… however recording would not resume again until motion ceased for a certain amount of time.

In this situation, if someone drove up to the house to break in, the recording would only capture the first 30 seconds potentially. How are situations like this handled by the recording rules?

You can select the minimum delay between video recordings. With VMD recordings you can select No delay so that clips can be recorded back to back if motion continues.
