We’re using a GoControl GD00Z-8-GC which I was able to operate through the app when I initially set it up (maybe 8 months ago).
I didn’t try it since, but recently I tried & it doesn’t operate the roller door. When I try to open or close the request in the app times out with '“Command could not be confirmed”. The GoControl unit does flash when the command is sent so something there is some communication happening.
Also, in my alarm.com activity screen it shows many errors for ‘Unable to Open’ & ‘Unable to Close’. Like it’s continually trying the failed activity.
I’ve tried to power cycle the garage unit, and also removed the GoControl device from the control panel & re add.
The GoControl is wired into my garage motor ‘pushbutton’ & ‘common’ connectors.
The door does open with our regular garage remote button.
Thanks for your suggestions, the qpanel is quite close to garage but I did move it into the garage just to test without luck.
The safety sensor appears to be clear and ok (I assume the garage remote wouldn’t work either if this was an issue?).
The ‘rediscover network’ seemed to run fine, could still see the roller door.
I did see on the qpanel under ‘automation device status’, the roller door status is normal. But looking further in there the failed even shows ‘access control:barrier unable to perform requested operation due to UL requirements’. Does that help?

Typically UL Requirements in this case refer to the sensor eyes being misaligned but that does not sound like it is the issue here, as the garage opened via the wall button.
Were you able to control the garage door from the Qolsys panel?
What model of overhead and wall control are you using?
Check to make sure the connection wires from the Linear Z-Wave Controller to the Garage Overhead are not loose. While polarity doesn’t matter with the Linear Controller, sometimes switching the wires can help.
Hmm looks like I spoke to soon, I tried it again and it’s back to doing the same. The garage controller light will flash & beep like it’s about to open the door but then nothing.
How many times did you test after swapping the wires? When was the last time it failed to open remotely? Is it working intermittently, or not at all.
If you manually open the door via the wall button, does the status in Alarm.com change?
Check to make sure none of the wires connected to the overhead controller are not loose.
What is the model of the overhead controller and what wall-button are you using? Can you submit a photo? The Linear Z-Wave Garage Door controller has been found not to work with some powered wall control panels that constantly draw power from the GDO. Such as those with lights and/or LED screens.
Ok I just tried again and it worked a few times (I had only tested it the first time), open/close through the app. So looks to be intermittent?
The garage door opener works consistently & the status is updated correctly in Alarm.com app. The wires seem to be nice and tight.
It’s a Linear overhead controller, there’s a number 228470D on the tag not sure if that’s the model. Will attach some photos of overhead & wall button.
I’ll keep testing it and see how it behaves (it worked up/down twice ok just now).
There shouldn’t be any compatibility issues with the overhead or the wall button. Looks like you have the Linear LDCO800 overhead.
As a part of troubleshooting, I would recommend updating your panel’s firmware. Currently it is on 4.4.1 and the latest version is 4.6.1. Steps on how to update firmware can be found here:
After the update, test for resolution.
Should that not resolve the issue,
delete the Linear GDZ008 from the Qolsys panel.
Then Factory Reset the Linear GDZ008.
Pair the Linear GDZ008 back into the panel.
Be sure to delete from the panel first before factory resetting.
Factory Reset and Pairing information can be fond here:
Hi again support, sorry it’s been a while - I have tried a few more times but still not able to get the garage door controller to work properly.
I’ve updated the firmware as suggested, removed GDZ008 from the panel, then factory reset and rejoined network.
It tested ok initially - working about 3 or 4 times fine. Then the next day it wouldn’t open or close through the app or panel. It does indicate when the door is opened or closed with the opener.
Thought I’d mention it again if you do have any other suggestions. Thanks in advance!
Hi, looking into this, I see examples in history where the system reports that Garage Door was unable to open. The alarm sensor 21, also labeled Garage Door reports open and closed, but the Z-wave garage door controller does not see the door open at times.
Can you post a photo of the tilt sensor that came with the GD00Z-8 ? A close up and a photo showing the general location on the door will help identify any issues.
Hi there, here’s picture of panel door sensor, also not to be confused with a regular door sensor called garage door (probably better if I rename that in hindsight).
I think the panel door is consistent in alerting me when it opens or closes - but I’ll keep a closer eye on it.
Also, when I tried to operate the panel door the warning flashing and beeps did operate but the panel door did not open.
I guess my next step will be to try the wire connectors again and make sure that contact is good?
Thanks again Jason. I did replace the sensor battery a few weeks ago (did get a low battery notification).
While I was in the garage Saturday morning (7th March) working on something else, when the door opened without warning. So I guess the stuck open command had eventually worked!?! I hadn’t tried to use the app/panel to open since about 2 weeks ago so nothing recent. I then tried the app several times, and it worked ok. Then Sunday it stopped working again.
Since then I’ve also cut back some fresh wire & re connected the terminals just to be sure. I think it’s still not working everytime, but I was able to open & close it just now.
Looking at the system it looks like there is only this one Z-wave device, with no repeaters to help with communication, so that may a potential route to troubleshoot as well.
How far is the Garage opener from the IQ Panel? Z-wave is a mesh network and non-Z-wave LR (long range) devices typically have a short range and often need assistance from repeating devices for reliability.
