IQ Remote Plus Not Connecting to Wifi

How far is the remote from the power supply (if wall mounted)? Sometimes it doesn’t have enough power you can probably check with a voltmeter.

Hi, Do you have Asus Router or any more or less newish router? , my 2 cents here:

I have the same annoying problem. I think it is miscommunication between Qolsys Panel 2 Plus and Asus Router ( I tried Rt-AC86U, Ag-ax11100 and Rt-Ax88u, the last one was with both Asus and Merlin firmware). I also briefly tried New Netgear 200 router and I cannot recommend it even to my enemy ( BTW same problem with Qolsys)

I have even more wifi problems are with additional Qolsys panels, I created wifi on my main Qolsys 2 Panel plus and connected them to that. I also connected my main Qolsys panel to quest wifi with no access to intranet, since it do not support Protected Management Frames and can be easily cloned.

I found that Qolsys cannot 100% support asus Protected Management Frames even it is not on required, but on capable.
Qolsys should fix their wifi protocol, I do not want to switch off “Protected Management Frames” protocol since it is easy to hack my network.

I have 68 wifi device in my place and only Qolsys have problems with constant wifi reconnection.

I would like to conclude with phrase: shame on Qolsys! (no smily face here) . I want to use much more stronger expression, but I suppose the forum doesn’t allow

I use tp link and never had an issue at all

I am going to forward this feedback to Qolsys and see if they have encountered similar issues or if they have router models they are aware of problems occurring. I appreciate the detail provided!

Charlie, Thanks for the info. Unfortunately TP link had some bad history with security protection so we decided not to use it. Netgear and Asus also can be hacked , but they have better reputation. I can be wrong here, but this what I heard from IT system administrators and made my short research. BUT if I cannot fix constant disconnects with new ASUS AX routers I go with TP-link.

Thanks again.

Jason, thanks for your support.

I was able to stabilize Qolsys Panel 2 Plus with restricting routing it on router. BUT 2 satellite Qolsys panels loosing wifi constantly with brand new RT-AX88U (M&M minimal setting with everything off like antivirus, NOD wifi6 , etc), AG-AX11000(also brand new, same minimal settings) and Netgear RAX200. I put both panels 3 feet next to the router and after 5-6 hours they start to reconnect. If I use WPA old protocol they ok.

What I did for now I created Access Point wifi on main Qolsys Panel 2 Plus and connected satellite panels to it. 2 days - no problems. So satellite panels can be connected directly and they do not need to be re-routed thru the router

Once again thanks for your excellent customer service.

I am having a similar issue. Main panel is connected and working. Remote panel alternates between Saved, Authenticating… and occasionally Connecting… I don’t think I have see Obtaining IP address. It flashes these very quickly every few seconds, but never connects. I have tried with both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. I have power cycled, and tried the Master Reset with no change. My Wi-Fi is on a Ubiquiti Unifi AC HD access point.

If you are having an issue connecting them via your wifi network please try the Access Point mode on the IQ panel 2+ and use that to connect the IQ Remotes. This will isolate them from the normal wifi.

Any luck?

I did try the Access Point option, but the remote panel only gets to obtaining IP address…

Did you master reset the Remote or the primary panel?

If you haven’t Master Reset the Remote, do so now, otherwise, then triple check the network key you are using for potential typos, O/0 flip flop kind of stuff.

If you never power cycled the primary IQ Panel 2+, do that now. Use the Reboot Panel option under Settings > Advanced Settings.

So I did the master reset on the remote (again) and power cycled the primary panel. I was able to get the remote to pair with the primary, but I am confused now. I am on a screen with only two buttons; Pair and Test. If I hit test it says to press test button on the primary. Where is the test button? Also now that the primary is in access point mode, it complains that there is no Wi-Fi connection. ls it only talking to the remote and not my Wi-Fi network. How does this work? What should I do next?

I see a subscription but I do not see an Alarm.com account for you, it looks like you have not activated Alarm.com account yet. I would be able to see more detail into the system after you activate your system. Be sure to visit the System Manager when you want to continue the activation steps.

Access point mode is available at the same time as wifi. This would mean you have wifi disabled or disconnected. Go to Settings > Advanced Settings > Wifi.

So we are all on the same page, what is the firmware version of your panel? Settings > Advanced Settings > About > Software.

I am on a screen with only two buttons; Pair and Test

You still need to pair the Remote to the Primary as a Wifi device.

On the Primary panel go to Settings > Advanced Settings > Installation > Devices > Wifi Devices > IQ Remote Devices. That is where you will find the Pair and Test buttons on the main panel.

Sorry to be such a noob. I was able to pair the remote to the main via access point mode, but I have never been able to get the main panel to connect to WiFi once I turned on the hotspot. I have tried both 2.4 and 5GHz. It shows connecting… and saved. After a while it only shows saved. It then complains about not being connected. I am positive the password is correct. I have about 12 other devices all working perfectly on WiFi. At the moment both panels are in the same room as the AP. Are there any logs that can show me what is happening? I have been a network engineer for 30+ years and I know my way around linux and switches/routers.

I am also confused on how to create an alarm.com account. Their help page says login name and password are provided by an authorized service provider. Any help would be appreciated.

Your Alarm.com account is created automatically by Surety as part of your activation process. Please follow the setup steps in our System Manager. (Click here to go to the Activation Steps). Please follow all steps to complete the connection.

Detailed debug logs aren’t visible on the panel, but panel debug logs can be sent to Qolsys by us, but that requires your system to be activated in Alarm.com. I wouldn’t anticipate any bug causing this, my guess is it is a setting issue.

Are you using WPA/WPA2?
Do you have MAC filtering turned on?
Are your 2.4 and 5 networks on unique SSIDs?

I have followed the activation steps. I am using WPA2 AES/CCMP, no MAC filtering. The 2 networks are on different SSID’s

I’m not aware of any specific limitations, but could you send us a private message and let me know if you have any special characters in your network key?

No special characters. The 5GHz key is letters only, 2.4 is letters and numbers. I just did a test and turned off the access point on the main panel. I went into WiFi and it connected just fine. It connected to the 5Ghz SSID. I forced it to 2.4 and it also connected fine. I then went back in and turned on the panel access point. It now shows no WiFi connection and I can’t get it to connect anymore.

Ok, I cannot recreate that. If you are connected to wifi, turning on the access point shouldn’t impact wifi. I am able to do the same here and ping the panel via broadband, and wifi remains connected.

Can you please connect to wifi and try downloading and installing the 2.5.3 firmware update?

Any change after?

Ok, I think I finally have this resolved. I tried connecting both panels to my Frontier WiFi and it worked as expected. I then did some trouble shooting with my Ubiquiti network. After I turned off a setting named ‘Enable Advanced Features’ it worked as expected. I’m not sure exactly what was causing the issue. Advanced features include band steering, airtime fairness and RSSI limits. In any event, I don’t think I need any advanced features and it is working as expected.

I was still having an issue where if I turned on the access point on the main panel it would lose the primary WiFi connection. Since I was able to get the remote panel to connect directly to WiFi, I don’t really are about the access point feature. Thank you for all your support. Now on to finish setting up sensors and z-wave devices…

Thanks for following up and letting us know. That’s a good find. Some routers with more aggressive control settings can cause problems with a fair share of IOT stuff.
