Every once in a while if the alarm has gone off, our IQ Remote has a low pitch squeal / hum that is constant. In the past, I’ve tripped another alarm and it resets itself. This time I can’t get the noise to go away - the panel is in our bedroom so this is not sustainable. Any thoughts or is it time to just get a new remote?
Sorry about the noise. A constant hum from the IQ Remote after an alarm usually means its speaker didn’t fully reset when the alarm ended. Here are a couple of things to try:
1. Restart the IQ Remote
- Unplug the IQ Remote’s power adapter.
- Press and hold the power button on the side of the IQ Remote until the power-off option appears, then turn it off.
- Leave it off for about 1 minute.
- Plug the power adapter back in and turn the IQ Remote back on.
2. Restart the main panel
If the hum comes back, restart your IQ Panel 2 as well, since the IQ Remote takes its sound cues from the panel:
- Swipe down from the top of the panel screen and touch Settings.
- Touch Advanced Settings and enter your installer code (default 1111).
- Touch System, then Power Down.
- Once it’s off, press the power button to turn it back on.
We’ve confirmed your system is already on the latest software, so an update won’t fix this.
If the hum keeps coming back
The IQ Remote’s speaker may be failing. Unfortunately, the IQ Panel 2 and its IQ Remote keypads have been discontinued, so a matching replacement is hard to find. Here are your options:
- Replace the IQ Remote with a DSC WS9LCDWF9 wireless keypad. This PowerG keypad works with your IQ Panel 2 and may be easier to find from other distributors.
- It lets you arm, disarm and send a panic alarm, and it shows the system’s status.
- It’s a button keypad with an LCD screen, not a touchscreen.
- It runs on 4 AA batteries, with an optional plug-in power adapter.
- You can’t bypass sensors from it.
- Upgrade to the IQ Panel 5 and the IQ Remote PowerG. You’d replace your IQ Panel 2 with the IQ Panel 5, and your current IQ Remote with the IQ Remote PowerG secondary touchscreen:
- IQ Panel 5: IQ Panel 5 - Qolsys - Surety
- IQ Remote PowerG: IQ Remote PowerG Secondary Touchscreen - Qolsys IQR-PG - Surety
- 319.5 MHz legacy radio card: your system has 319.5 MHz sensors, so you’d also need the IQ Card-319 legacy radio card for the IQ Panel 5 to keep using them. You can add it as an option when you add the IQ Panel 5 to your cart. Installation guide: How to Install the IQ Card Legacy Radio into the IQ Panel 5
- Moving your settings: a backup and restore can transfer your sensors, user codes and panel settings to the new panel, so you won’t have to set everything up again. Z-Wave devices aren’t included and would need to be added again. More information: Backup and Restore Process for Qolsys Brand Panels IQ Panel 2, IQ Panel 4, IQ Panel 5 series
