Having trouble with QR code enrolling Z-Wave device with SmartStart

I’m trying to enroll a Z-Wave Long Range device in my IQ Panel using SmartStart. The panel camera can’t read the QR code. What should I do?

This is a common problem using SmartStart enrollment with IQ Panels. There is a trick you can use to work around it.

  1. Take a close up picture of the QR code with your phone or mobile device.
  2. Open the pic on your phone screen and zoom it as big as possible while it still fits on the screen.
  3. Hold the image on your phone up the IQ Panel camera and use that to enroll the device instead of using the printed QR code directly.

We realize this is a nuisance and we apologize. But if often works better than trying to enroll with the small printed QR code directly.

I’ve found two additional tips that work for me:

If the QR code is not high contrast (like those on a ZEN51 or a ADC temp sensor) edit the photo on your phone to increase contrast.

Also, it sometimes helps to start with your phone pic relatively close to the IQ panels camera, and then slowly pull the phone away from the camera while keeping the QR code centered in the display. As you are pulling away it tends to register the scan. YMMV.
