I’m using a zwave plug to control a light string on an outdoor Trellis. We specifically use for lighting when eating outdoors or entertaining. Because it does not have a specific light switch (and is only used periodically) we tend to forget to turn off and it runs overnight or longer.
I cannot find an automation or schedule that will turn it off. Ideally it would automatically turn off 2 hours after being switched on. Or shut off at 11pm.
You can either turn it off after a period of time, set within the rule that turns it on, or if it should always turn off at 11PM and you sometimes manually turn it on by the app, you can create that Off event as a separate schedule.
Log into the Alarm.com website and visit the Automation page. Click Schedules. Add a new schedule and automate that light to turn off at 11.
No rule to turn on. We are toggling it on if we eat dinner on our deck.
I checked this before reaching out, and I can’t create a rule to “turn off” without first turning it “on”. (see screenshot)
The only work around I can see is to create a rule to “turn on” at 10:59pm before turning “off” at 11pm, but that is not ideal. I would rather not have these lights shine into my windows and neighbors windows every night unless they are truly in use.
