I attempted to install the VDB775 to a mechanical chime. Once installed, when you click the doorbell, the ring cuts short. What is supposed to be a 4 or 5 second ring, only rings for maybe 0.5 seconds.
What could be going on here?
The electrician tried looking for a transformer, but it wasn’t near the doorbell or the current mechanical ring. If the transformer cannot be found, is there anything else we can do?
When using the mechanical chime, you need to use the Mechanical Chime Dongle ADC-VDBA-MCD (included). Has this been connected?
Installation instructions can be found below to review:
The recommended transformer rating for an AC transformer is 16-24 VAC, 10-40VA (16VAC, 10VA recommended). You will want to check to confirm that is what you are using.
Alternatively, a DC transformer 18-24VDC, 12-30W could be used to power the ADC-VDB75. While we do not carry it at this time, the Alarm.com ADC-VDBA-PSU-DC could be used as a plug in option.
The Mechanical Chime Dongle was confirmed to be connected. The existing transformer was 16 VAC and 10VA (pictured below). Since the bell was still not going all the way, we swapped it to 16 VAC and 30VA. Still not ringing fully. Should we try 40VA? Or is there a digital chime we could use?
The settings are also set to Mechanical. What’s weird is if you change the setting to Digital, it rings, but rings continuously and doesn’t stop. Weird.
