Is the VDB770 to VDB775 doorbell upgrade a straightforward swap out?
In other words do I need to do every step of the install, or would it leverage the same powersupply/wiring and I just need to swap the device itself. Mine was installed by a pro, so I have no idea how to do anything more than unscrew it, swap over wires and connect the new one. I am capable of provisioning.
The VDB775 is meant as a replacement. The power requirement for AC transformer is 16-24 VAC, 10-40VA (16VAC, 10VA recommended). Your transformer should state what its rated for. Similarly, the 770 is AC transformer 16-30V AC, 10-30VA
More information on the 775 including installation instructions can be found below. While we do not currently carry this camera, we should have it available on the store front soon. Otherwise, compatible equipment can be purchased elsewhere and still be used with service.
The item in the picture is the chime. The transformer for a doorbell usually looks like the picture below. It is usually located near the chime, garage, entry closet, or attic. The transformer is where we will be able to tell if it provides enough power for the doorbell
One piece of feedback for you guys. You sell the Doorbell and the digital chime adapter, but I didn’t see any link to buy the wedge install kit. Wedge install kits are important since doorbells are usually adjacent to the door.
i had assumed it was included since it wasn’t a separate item on surety.com. When my installer arrived we had no wedge.
I am obviously able to order one from AlarmGrid and retrofit it later, but it’s a bit annoying when I have the installer here today.
I have VDB770 that I have been using for last 3 years. The installer wedged the blue crimped wire connectors between the backplate and the doorbell (very little space there) instead of routing them between the backplate and the mounting plate… so the bottom plastic piece on the backplate broke so there the doorbell is not securely seated on the backplate to have good connection via 2 push pins that power the doorbell.
SO i have to purchase used 770 to get a new backplate or upgrade to 775.
Question is, besides purchasing the 775 and the angled wedges, do I need to purchase anything else as my 770 has been functioning well with existing chime/power module and transformer? DO I need 775 specific power module to replace the one I have been using for 770?
For what it’s worth, I just switched to the 775 from the 770 and I am using the same transformer. The 775 includes the module for the mechanical chime which I also installed.
Surety states to purchase power module… “The ADC-VDBA-775-PM Power Module (sold separately) is required when connecting the VDB775 to a digital chime. You can purchase the ADC-VDBA-775-PM here.”
The power module (white box with gray/white wires) is mandatory — it must be wired into your chime box or circuit… did you reuse the one from 770 or purchased a new one that is 775 specific? or it came with one?
That is if you have a digital chime. If you have a mechanical chime you don’t need that. The module for the mechanical chime is included with the doorbell. I bought the module for the digital chime. DIdnt end up using it.
Your current VDB770 settings are set to use a mechanical chime. If that’s the case, you do not need to purchase a separate power module in order to use the VDB775.
If you’re using an Alarm.com power module for the VDB770, it would need to be replaced when upgrading to the VDB775, as the 775 has one specifically made for it.
Your previous VDB770 settings showed that you were using a mechanical chime. If you’d like to double-check, could you send us a photo of the inside of your doorbell chime? We can help confirm if it’s digital or mechanical. You can also send that to us via private message here or via email to support@suretyhome.com if you’d prefer.
