It is connected to the panel, but I am unable to control the thermostat from the panel. Would this cause the issue?
Control should be viewable via the separate thermostat page on the panel. From the home screen scroll right a few times to get to the tstat page.
Its possible you have this page disabled. To check, navigate to Settings > Advanced Settings > Enter the Installer Code > Installation > Installer Settings > Thermostat Page. Enable if the box is not checked.
However I am showing the following device is reporting a malfunction
Thermostat
(ID = 1201)
What malfunction is showing here?
Malfunction is a trouble condition in Alarm.com. It indicates the device is having communication issues with the panel.
How can I fix this?
I want to control the thermostat from my iPhone app

I am able to clear and readd the thermostat to the panel, but it will not add to my app on my iPhone.
