Sensor Left Open Energy Saver Rule issue

I’ve been using the Sensor Left Open Energy Saver rule for several years without issue. I’ve made no changes to the system or the rule, but recently, it is not resetting the thermostat when the sensors are closed, forcing me to manually have to put the thermostat in Auto mode.

So that we can best assist, can you provide a couple rough times and dates when you expected that a Left Open adjustment should have occurred?

I can check in history to determine if the status processed properly to see if the issue is likely at the thermostat, panel, or the rule.

I do see a handful of recent thermostat left open events in Alarm.com on most days, including yesterday. If these are not occurring successfully, the first step I would recommend is a power cycle of the thermostats.

If that does not resolve the issue, power cycle the alarm panel.

Interesting. I believe this is a potential cause of some of the thermostat issues I’ve been having. It may not be the only one, but I’ve caught it not returning to the normal schedule at least twice when the sensor is closed even after doing the factory reset dance on Friday.

I have rebooted the control panel, and power cycled the thermostat and thermostat sensor, which didn’t work. You can probably see several times when the door sensor is closed and the thermostat isn’t returned to normal.

This specifically happened today:

  • 1:08p EST: Sliding glass door sensor opened
  • 1:13p EST: Thermostat sensor left open thermostat change
  • 2:12p EST: Sliding glass door sensor closed
  • 4:08p EST: Thermostat set to auto manually

We have had another user report something similar. Can you try deleting those sensor left open override rules? Wait about 10 minutes before recreating. Any change?

It will let me disable the rule (sliding toggle), but it will not let me delete the rule.

Ah, that’s right I always forget they have that rule basically hard coded in there. Yes, go ahead and disable that rule. I would try editing it too, remove a sensor from it or add on, so that it is changed and sent to the system. After ten minutes, re-enable.

I’ve sent an additional troubleshooting command to the system. Let me know if you see success or if the issue persists. It may need ADC engineers to investigate.

After I removed the sensor from the rule, waited 10, added the sensor back, waited 10, reactivated the rule, waited 10 and then tested. It worked the first time the sensor was opened (for 5 min) and closed, but then it stopped for subsequent tries.

Thank you for testing. I have forwarded this to Alarm.com for investigation. The event history on our end clearly shows the issue is occurring and should make it easier to identify for engineers. We can see the trigger event (sensor closing) but no resolution for the rule in those cases.

Is there any update on this issue?

I’ve not received an official update yet. I sent a message to ADC late last week to see if there was any discovered cause yet.
