Qolsys IQ2+ problem - is it dead?

System installed at a second home/remote location. Several months back my IQ2+ panel stopped responding. I was without service for a few months before I could return to the address. A panel reboot seemed to solve the problem.

A few days ago the I received another “not responding” message. Fortunately, I was coming to location this week. Unfortunately, it seems the panel is dead.

Panel was off when I arrived. I attempted to start it by holding the button.

Red light came on briefly. Then turned to a flashing green light. Screen is glowing slightly, but still black. No logos appear. Looking through this forum, I saw some other identical situations and followed the troubleshooting steps listed there.

Power supply and wire is original provided with the unit. 5.5v power supply checks out as good with a multimeter. Battery is NOT bloated and looks fine. Battery and Power disconnected for 1 hour. Does not fix problem.

Based on this, its seems the unit has an irreperable hardware failure and needs to be replaced. Unit is beyond the 2yr warranty. What fun. Doesn’t any company make a product with a shelf life beyond a few years?

Questions:

I have a mix of “power g” and older sensors in the home (legacy from my previous Honeywell panel). I’d rather not have to replace sensors.

  • Can I replace with something other than Qolsys? (currently very disappointed with the poor quality of their products).

  • How do I figure out if I have a 319.5 or 345 version? I have these panels installed in a few homes and I have both versions. Not sure which is which. Can’t check the panel since it’s non-functioning.

  • I’m probably stuck with Qolsys and know I have to get the current V4 panel. If I order today, how quickly can I get it? Tomorrow (Friday)? I’m only here for the weekend. If I can’t get it tomorrow, that means I’m probably without service for another few months until I get back here. The last panel outage cost me a bit of $$$ being unaware of a problem. I’d like to avoid that again.

Edited to add:
Also, with a replacement panel, will I have to re-enroll all my sensors, codes, schedules, and x-wave devices? Or is there a way to transfer the old data over thru Surety? (Can’t do it from a dead panel). If you can do it, how long do you keep the stat from a cancelled account? (If I can’t get a new panel quickly, there’s no point in paying for several months of service on a home that has no panel)

Did that panel come with a 5.5VDC power supply? Those power supplies came with pre-revision E panels, I believe those were manufactured in 2018 or before. More recent IQ Panel 2 systems come with a 7VDC power supply.

We’ve seen a fairly high rate of that specific failure on IQ Panel 2 systems though. I understand the frustration. Luckily we have not seen any similar type of failure in the IQ4 Hub or IQ Panel 4.

You could yes, it looks like most of your sensors are Honeywell 345Mhz sensors. PowerG would not be compatible though with something like a 2GIG panel. The PowerG sensors would need to be replaced if you went with a 2GIG Panel.

I would recommend the IQ Panel 4 345Mhz version for compatibility with all the existing sensors.

How do I figure out if I have a 319.5 or 345 version?

Your IQ Panel 2 connected to Surety is a 345Mhz version.

If I order today, how quickly can I get it?

Products are shipped from the nearest available warehouse, shipping is usually 2-3 days at the fastest though.

An automatic backup of your system is available in Alarm.com, which contains panel user and sensor programming. Your panel looks to be of a sufficient firmware version that we can use the backup to apply to an IQ Panel 4.

Z-wave devices cannot be backed up and restored in this fashion. They would need to be manually reconnected to the new panel.

The backup is only available on an active Alarm.com account, it is saved within Alarm.com. If the account is cancelled we would no longer have access to that backup.

Ships within 2-3 days…. So you can’t get it here quickly.

Active subscription through Alarm.com…. My subscription is through Surety. If I cancel that, my Alarm.com goes away too? I have alarm.com on two other homes (not through Surety,). I’m guessing that doesn’t count?

Looks like I have to make some calls to find someone who can deliver quickly.,

Edited to add:

I’m confused about the backup situation. Your post states: “an automatic backup is available.” The the information shown states the process requires the current panel to be communicating with alarm.com”

Is there a current backup? Or am I out of luck because the panel is dead and cannot communicate?

**never mind. Saw your other response. Looks like I will have to start from scratch when I’m back here in a few months, unless I can find another provider who can ship overnight. Although it is odd… last time I canceled for a few months due to a panel outage, everything was still there when IU re-instated. Maybe the panel saved the info?

We cannot guarantee delivery dates. Orders are processed during normal business hours and are typically completed same day, or by the next business day. Surety is unable to provide expedited shipping at this time, orders are sent via ground method only.

However, as we utilize a variety of warehouses across the US, orders are processed from the closest warehouse with sufficient stock to the shipping address to cut down on shipping times.

Surety is an Alarm.com service provider. Alarm.com does not provide service direct to the consumer, they use a variety of dealers.

If you cancel service through Surety, the Alarm.com service account you have with us is terminated on the specified date. The backup on file would be deleted when the account is.

2-3 days includes shipping time. We usually ship the day you order unless it’s late in the day.

All the sensors and panel programming are stored in the panel itself. If you move an already programmed panel to a new Alarm.com account it remembers all that.
