I am on firmware 4.6.1, recently upgraded several sensors from 433MHz to PowerG, and added 16 sensors using IQ Hardwire PowerG. Occasionally, the system gets very slow (reporting door open/close 10-20 seconds after the event), the screen gets laggy, and then it crashes and reboots. The system seems to stay slow until I intentionally request a reboot.
The last crash was this morning. I am not able to recreate the issue or connect it to one specific trigger. I do not see any Messages/Alerts.
For reference, I also powered the panel off and let it sit for about 20 minutes before restarting based on a support suggestion to a different post.
I’m not showing anything on the morning of the 29th that would suggest any issue. How long has this been occurring for?
When you powered off the panel, did you disconnect the internal battery as well?
If not, do a full power cycle
If the full power cycle was already done, from the panel, navigate to Settings > Advanced Settings > Enter Installer Code > System Tests > Input Voltage Test> What is the result?
Thank you for the reply. The issue happened at least 3 times over a month. I hadn’t noticed this issue in the past.
I powered down the unit from the menu, and left it off for ~20 minutes. I did not perform a “full” power cycle removing the battery, but everything has been working normally for the past week. If I have another issue, I will follow up with a full power cycle.
I have been seeing this behavior on my IQPanel 4 since upgrading to 4.6.1. Never had this occur before this version. If I could downgrade, I would do it in an instant. Other users on Reddit have also reported it, and I’ve experienced all of the items. The most common is the panel becoming sluggish and slow to respond to any commands. The only way to resolve it is to send a reboot signal or very slowly (if possible) trigger a power off/reboot from the panel—albeit hard to do when the panel hardly responds.
Rebooting usually resolves it for a week or two, but then it comes right back.
Really hoping Johnson Controls has acknowledged this and has a fix in progress. Otherwise, this will be painful waiting for a new firmware updates.
@tyler Can you see if JC has acknowledged this yet?
From my understanding, the camera fills the system logs and causes the lag. Qolsys has recommended turning off the camera > Rebooting the panel > Turning on the camera again. If the issue still occurs, you can disable the camera to avoid further lag.
Since I still needed my panel camera, the only way I got it fixed was by performing a master reset. The steps I performed were:
Perform a backup on alarm.com
Master reset the panel
Restored the backup.
It has now been several months and no more lag on the panels screen for me. More information for a backup and restore can be found below
Thanks Vidail! This is overall great news! Any possibility Surety has access to the firmware files and I can securely download the non-4.6.1 patch and downgrade?
If this works then I can go the backup/restore but just curious on what the prospects are for downgrading if it still occurs.
Unfortunately, I still have issues. Since updating to 4.6.1, my panel is not stable and others are reporting similar issues.
Over the weekend, the panel got slow again and I rebooted it. I was adding new sensors, but that never triggered issues before I upgraded to 4.6.1.
Today:
I initiated an Arm-AWAY at 6:14 PM.
Within 15 seconds, I exited the house and closed the door.
At 6:16PM, the panel recorded the door open (about 2 minutes after I opened the door) and triggered an alarm.
The panel crashed and reported Panel-Power Up at 6:18.
I struggled to cancel the alarm in the app, probably because the panel was rebooting.
Around 8:35 I powered down the panel. I took it off the wall. I unplugged the battery. I waited until 9:00 to reconnect everything. The input voltage is 7.14vDC.
Please escalate this issue to get a working patch. While users cannot downgrade firmware, Qolsys can issue a new version that brings up back to a stable system. @vidail@tyler Surety needs to advocate for us – as a DIY model, you are our leverage. Surety advides me to install 4.6.1, please help get it fixed.
I have seen other issues reported, so I am sure it is not unique to my system:
