So today at 2:01p I got an alert saying “fire sensor trouble.” Checking the panel I see 2 trouble statuses for my smoke sensor. One says “trouble” and the other says “dirty.” I did what the manual said to vacuum with a small brush head. The manual also says that the trouble will clear after 4 hours however it is now 6:47p and still in trouble condition. To make it worse the thing keeps beeping every 48 seconds, which is extremely annoying! Please HELP!
Happy to assist!
When an issue is present, there will be an LED lit up on the Smoke Detector PG9936 unit itself. It will flash a specific color every X seconds accompanied by a chirp every X seconds. This will dictate what the issue is and can be reviewed in the manual.
Based on your description, it is likely one of the following:
- Detector Trouble - Yellow flash every 4 seconds- One chirp every 48 seconds
- Low Battery - Yellow flash every 12 seconds - One chirp every 48 seconds (press button to hush for 12 hours)
- Detector Dirty - Yellow flash every 8 seconds - One chirp every 48 seconds
I have sent some commands to the panel, if the underlying issue was resolved, then the malfunction being reported in Alarm.com should go away. Give those about 5 minutes.
If the underlying issue is still present, identify which of the listed issues is occurring and let us know.
When troubleshooting, you may want to place your 24/7 professional monitoring account on Test Mode during troubleshooting to avoid any false dispatches.
You can do this by calling monitoring operators directly at 855-348-0367 or from the Professional Monitoring tab in the System Manager section of your Surety account.
When calling the monitoring station, you can place individual zones on test mode as well.
Yes, the panel gives me the detector dirty alert. The led light and sounds from sensor agree with panel. Can you please send the commands again? I had removed the batteries on the sensor to stop the chirping for the night. And I just turned it on again. The panel shows that the sensor was restored because it was in failure status, and it is back again showing 2 alerts for the sensor the first of which is “trouble” and the 2nd, “dirty”
To confirm, on the sensor, is there a yellow flash every X seconds? If so, how many seconds?
I have sent commands again, which should resolve the issue being reported at the panel, if the sensor is no longer reporting a trouble locally. If the sensor is reporting the issue via the yellow flash, then the issue is unresolved.
Flash is every 8 sec. Chirp is every 48 sec. I already vacuumed as per manual. Manual said that it would clear after 4 hr.
Is there a way to reset the sensor? It doesn’t look like the sensor is dirty or dusty.
You can reboot the sensor by removing the batterys for 30 seconds and reinserting them.
If the sensor is still reporting a dirty sensing chamber and the chamber has been cleaned per manual instructions, then the sensor may be faulty and in need of replacement.
