I got the turret with the varifocal lens.
sweet look forward to hearing about it.. how did you hear about the Prism series and get your hands on one already?
I wasnāt able to get any additional documents yet, but Alarm.com confirmed to me that the Prism cameras can record at 8MP resolution to the CSVR.
Awesome. Wish we had more info on when these would be readily available. Guess Iāll have to be patient. Hopefully @Miteshprema gets his installed soon and reports back
Thanks for following up.
I just installed mine.
Sweet!! How is the quality of image. Key test will be the image at night.
Remember I am comes from the 847PF so I already had 4MP recording. What the switch to Prism gave me is the ability to add AI Deterrence and Cam Pro which I needed on this one corner of my house. All my other perimeter cameras are already enabled.
I am looking forward to seeing the night vision and how it compares to the floodlight cameras I installed last year.
Gotcha!! Report back please.
Thx.
Any update on whether or not Surety will be getting these? Iād like to place an order for a few POE cameras but I donāt want to miss out if so. Thanks.
We are planning on carrying a few of the PRISM models but I do not have an exact ETA on availability. It should be soon however. Which models were you looking for?
Just as an FYI - I bought a prism camera from AlarmGrid which already has it in stock.
ran into an issue which is that the current firmware appears to be incompatible with AI Deterrence. Seems odd since AI Deterrence is one of the advertised features. Surety is chasing this down for me with Alarm.com.
in terms of video quality I would say it is fairly comparable to their other 4MP cameras including the VC838PF that I replaced. I do find the video quality on the Ring Floodlight Cam Pro is better than to Prism camera (I have both installed side by side).
Thanks for the update. Hope they get it figured out for you.
Which Prism camera model are you using? Arenāt the Prism cameras all either 5MP or 8MP? Isnāt the ADC-VC847PF only 2MP?
VC8498PA is the one I installed. My old camera was the VC838PF.
did you guys hear back from Alarm.com on the firmware message I PMd you on Friday?
The ADC-VC8498PA is an 8MP varifocal dome. I donāt see how it would be similar in video quality to the older 2MP ADC-VC838PF with 4X the resolution and all the new camera improvements. I wonder if something might be off like the image resolution is set lower than it could be in the camera settings? Or maybe the focus needs to be adjusted?
I havenāt used one myself yet but that just doesnāt seem right. We have some on the way make available to customers.
@jwcsurety reached out to Alarm.com about the AI Deterrence issue on Friday and was waiting for information but heās out of office today. Hopefully heāll be back tomorrow with an update.
A few observations:
- While the camera claims to be 8mp I canāt see anyway to enable 8mp resolution. Unless it is only for the dVR recording. If you look at the video settings in the App this is what it shows:
- The other observation is the video quality is much better during the day. Day video quality is significantly better on the VC8498PA than the Ring Floodlight Cam Pro, but night quality seems better on the Ring which seems to pick up more light.
- The camera seems to be a bit of a Beta since it seems it wonāt enable AI Deterrence. and also I just found out it is not able to do Vehicle recognition which my old camera VC838PF could do. I suspect both of these limitations are due to incomplete software on Alarm.comās end. Surprised they released it missing some advertised features.
I appreciate Surety working with me to resolve these issues. Itās awesome you guys are so on top of this in terms of chasing down Alarm.com on the issues with a new product.
There is some discussion here on the video quality
We have learned that the Prism cameras donāt have loudspeakers. So the two way audio is actually only audio in, and for true two way you would need to install an external speaker with its own power. That makes this a pretty complicated install and significantly inferior to what Ring is offering.
Have to say I am very angry about this. At least you guys will go into this with eyes wide open.
Prism cameras are designed for commercial application first, and this stems from that intention. For commercial cameras, I think a commonly reported issue with onboard speakers is that they simply arenāt loud or clear enough to use. A business is more likely to want the speaker mounted closer to the level where people will be, near a door, etc.
In other words, the best location for the speaker and the best location for the camera are two different locations, especially on varifocal cameras. I think it would be much better to have an onboard + external option, but in this case an external speaker is required according to ADC.
