Need advice with V724X

Hi Everyone: I am new to the forum and would like some input. I have an ADC install with 2 cams. One has an issue with false positives due to shadows from trees. I can’t figure out how to adjust for this. On line I read about VMD settings including sensitivity, target size etc. Seems like what i need to adjust but I can’t find that anywhere to adjust. Are my cameras out of date? Do I need a software upgrade? Many thanks for any insight you can send my way.

Alarm.com notice - “New accounts created after February 2023 will no longer have the option to create Video Motion Detection (VMD) recording rules. This change comes as we confidently move forward with Video Analytics as our premier motion recording solution.”

VMD is not available on new accounts. You can use Ground Zone rule or a Tripwire rule with Video Analytics. If you’re having issues with shadows, I would lean more towards a trip line rule but this would only trigger when someone crosses the line and not if they are in an area for a certain amount of time.

Also, make sure you calibrate the device before setting up the recording rules.

Vidial thanks for the reply. Trip wire for sure will not work for me, and there is already an existing ground rule as part of the analytics rule and I need to change the behavior of the existing rule not add an additional rule. I tried experimenting with the options available (time between clips, time in area of focus, etc. Nothing helps, so it seems I am left without a solution, getting dozens of false clips recorded when the sun is low. This is very disappointing and uses up my 100 clips per day very quickly. I am open to suggestions from others!

In Alarm.com you can create up to 3 distinct video analytics rules per camera. If the effect is extreme and there is a lot of motion in certain parts of the image at a specific time of day which is causing lots of recordings, it may be good to split up your recording schedule into two parts.

You could use a more aggressive, wider ground zone during the normal hours. Then during the problem time period, draw back the ground zone to help exclude the areas where motion is just going to occur constantly.

I am not seeing a Surety subscription linked to your username. Do you use Surety for your Alarm.com service provider? If so, we can take a look at your rules and provide some recommendations.

In general best practices for Video Analytics rules in Alarm.com are described in the guide below:

You can filter out notifications related to non-human activity with analytics, but the motion will still trigger the recordings. One common issue is that the ground zone is sometimes drawn much wider than necessary. It should be limited to the ground visible in the frame where motion occurs that is desireable to record. It is not meant to select all the visible area in the frame where motion might occur.

If you want to send a Private Message with a screenshot of your ground zone on the recording rule showing what is selected in the camera image, we can make recommendations on how to proceed.

Jason I am not a Surety customer. I thought your forum was supporting the ADC user base overall.

However, thanks for your comments, I can do as you suggest and give it a try.

How do i get my comments/questions to the many other ADC users like me?

Thanks your help is greatly appreciated.

Our forum is for everyone, we’re happy to help with any questions we can, and other users can read and comment here.

We have more tools available to look into the issue for our those using Surety as their service provider, which is why I wanted to find out if you had service with us but under a different username.

If you want to send that screenshot of the ground zone area in a private message, we can provide some recommendations.

OK thanks, I will wait for the next sunny day and send you a PM with a pic.
