I keep getting low battery alerts on my take over devices which have no battery. Ive read up a bit on it and I unplugged my alarm panel battery and power from wall. Then replaced my battery thats hooked to the take over module. Also, along with the low battery alerts, I’m getting open window upstairs, there is no open window. Attached are pictures of my setup.
I assume no wiring was intentionally changed when replacing the battery?
For the low battery, the most common cause of this is when wall power is applied before the battery is connected. The battery should be connected when wall power is disconnected and then wall power should be plugged in.
Another possibility is if the battery isn’t fully charged, it may take some time for it to charge up.
For the open window sensor, was it working fine before you changed the battery? Can you try temporarily shorting the upstairs window zone by directly connected that zone on the takeover module to ground using a jumper wire? Does it show the window is closed when you do that?
I will check on the voltage of battery see if its charged yet. I will work on a jumper cable. The open window just randomly popped up a few days ago, before I was just getting low battery alarm.
Do you know which zone number on the takeover module is that upstairs window?
You would take a wire and connect it to that zone at one end and the ground (G) terminal at the other end. You don’t even have to screw it down, you can just hold it in place connecting them together and have someone watch the panel to see if it no longer shows that window is open.
Understood…when I have a second person to help, I will give it a try. Thanks
If you have chime enabled for that zone you could also listen for it to chime when it opens as you connect and remove the jumper wire.
Ok, I jumped it and it did “close the window” of course when I removed the jumper it went back to “open window”. Whats next?
Also, my low battery issue seems to be gone. I just recycled the panel power a few times and its been good for the last 12 hours.
That means you’ve isolated the problem to the sensor itself, the wire, or one of the connections. Start with the easy stuff.
The first thing I’d do is physically inspect the sensor on the window. Did the magnet fall off or did either part come loose?
If not, then check the wire connections at the takeover module for that sensor to the zone terminal and to ground. If you have all the the connections to ground tied together with a wire nut then it’s possible the ground wire for that sensor came loose.
Everything looks ok to me…but obviously something is bad, ie senor, wire etc. I ended up just bypassing the upstairs windows as it’s not a security risk for me at the moment.
I’d just replace the sensor
When Vivint originally installed my system they tied all my upstairs windows into 1, so it doesn’t matter what one I open it, just says upstairs window open. So, I have no idea which sensor is bad.
How many window do u have installed
I guess I could buy one sensor and go around re wire each one individually until I find it.
6 windows
That or just replace all 6
I didn’t realize how cheap they were! I see a pack of them for $15. I’ll prob just do that!
Just make sure there 2gig
That’s really cheap at least u know what sensor what at that point
