Issues w/ADC-SWM150 Water Valve

Hi -

I’ve had the SWM150 smart water valve installed for about three years, and recently, I’ve been receiving low flow alarms. The timing of these alarms is inconsistent, but they eventually resolve on their own.

To summarize my troubleshooting efforts: I’ve determined that when the low flow alarm is active, there is no water movement at my main water meter in the front yard. The small wheel on the meter, which detects even the slightest flow, remains stationary during these alarms. As I type this, I have an active low flow alarm, but 0 movement on the main water meter.

I suspect there’s an electronic failure with the SWM150. I’ve tried disconnecting the power for about 15 minutes and reconnecting it, but the issue persists.

Does anyone have suggestions for troubleshooting the SWM150? I’m doubtful that there are any serviceable or replaceable parts inside. My home is built on a slab, so the SWM150 is installed in my garage.

Thanks,
-Ryan

The Low Flow alert means that any flow at all was detected for a period of 2 hours. When that alert occurs, the flow has already been happening, and visually inspecting a meter wheel is not likely able to reveal the activity of a small leak. However, I am not sure how sensitive or obvious your utility meter displays activity.

If you are certain that no flow at all is actually occurring, a factory reset of the SWM150 can be tried.

Steps to remove it from your network then factory reset it are described in the link below:

Thanks Jason. If I set my kitchen sink to a very small trickle, my main utility water meter at the street shows water movement. I am drawing the conclusion that if I have a ‘low flow’ leak, it would be visible on my meter.

I will try the factory reset process this evening. Is there any technical data that you can see on your side re: my SWM150 that may help me?

Thanks,

There is some data we can look at. I looked back through the last week of water usage.

The alerts seem to first occur in the morning around a similar time frame. I would expect an internal error to not show a schedule bias unless it is repeated all the time. These events occur for a longer period in the morning. they seem to not occur overnight. They do not correspond to all bursts of water usage.

The information suggests that they are somehow impacted by a usage pattern, possibly a leaking fixture. Do you have any sinks that drip for a while after use, or toilets that run longer than expected to refill/etc?

Additionally if I squint they appear to sort of line up with some water temperature drops after a longer gradual increase in temperature, though only some, which I think would also suggest it may be related to a particular fixture leak after using hot water, shower might explain why the morning events appear to last longer.

If you do not think there are any leaks/drips going on, try a factory reset.
