IQ2 Remote Issues

Been recently having issues with my IQ2 remote panel working but not speaking a few times and requiring a reboot. Sometimes the panel just goes off line by itself and won’t reboot until I remove power and let the battery go dead. I just did a master reset this past weekend too and it went offline again tonight so it will now remain unplugged for 24 hours. Sometimes the screen does not want to respond and locks up. It’s acting like it has a computer virus. Any suggestions when I reboot it again?

How is the IQ Remote powered, via the included power supply and cable, or a pre-existing cable run?

When connected to the IQ Panel 2, is it connected via Wi-Fi, or is it connected via AP Mode? Does one work better over the other?

The remote is powered with the included adapter/cable and connected to main panel via wifi. Right after doing a mandatory system software upgrade a few months ago the remote panel locked up and has been progressively getting worse. Usually, the only way to reboot the panel is to remove power and let the battery go dead.

Sometimes the panel just goes off line by itself and won’t reboot until I remove power and let the battery go dead.

Do you mean the screen is black/unresponsive, or the panel just isnt connecting to the main panel?

What firmware version is the IQ Remote reporting?

To troubleshoot, you can try:

  1. Remove the IQ Remote from IQ Panel 2 programming
    • Settings > Advanced Settings > Installation > Devices > Wi-Fi Devices > IQ Remote
  2. Master Reset the IQ Remote
  3. Connect the IQ Remote to the Wi-Fi network that the IQ Panel 2 is on
  4. Pair the IQ Remote to the IQ Panel 2.

I did all the above steps and when I added the remote after a master reset back into the system it did download and install a patch, so let’s hope that fixes everything. When it was going off line it did have a dark unresponsive screen.

Software 2.8.1
Build Number 20231026_b9
Linux Version 4.4.71
Android OS 7.1.2

I did have problems after a recent urgent update in February. https://support.suretyhome.com/t/urgent-software-upgrade-needed-iq-panel-2/35867/5

Let us know if you have any additional issues.

It just went offline again this evening, a black unresponsive screen and power button does nothing. The last time we used it was this morning to disarm the system.

Sounds like hardware failure. Can you confirm the model number from the back of the unit? Is this a QW9104-840 or perhaps a 9103-840?

It’s a QW9104-840. This all started after that update, why? Now I have to buy a new one.

I am not showing any issues with that firmware update impacting the IQ Remote in such a manner. However, I am currently working with Qolsys to see if there are any additional steps to resolution here.

I will follow up as soon as possible.

If you are able to use a multi-meter to check the power supply to ensure it is producing the correct voltage, I would do that to confirm.

Otherwise, you may try fully powering off the IQ Remote. Since its no longer under warranty, you can open the IQ Remote and disconnect the internal battery for this.

To do so safely, disconnect the power supply from the wall outlet and remove the set screws from the back of the IQ Remote to separate the back from the front screen. There is a backup battery inside that can be unplugged. This voids the warranty so I wouldn’t typically recommend this.

Leave the whole unit off for 10+ minutes. Check to make sure the internal battery is not bloated as well (this could be part of the issue). As long as the battery looks good, then power it up in reverse order and test for resolution.

When troubleshooting, you may want to place your 24/7 professional monitoring account on Test Mode during troubleshooting to avoid any false dispatches.

You can do this by calling monitoring operators directly at 855-348-0367 or from the Test My System tab in the System Manager section of your Surety account.

Have 7.6 vdc on the power adapter. Battery was not bulged and it lasted about 5 days after disconnecting the battery, master reset, reinstall and software update until it got the black death screen again. This is the second remote panel I had fail in 5 years! The first was still under warranty and doing the same thing. The master panel has been flawless but what are my alternatives for a secondary panel now or a system upgrade? I don’t have any faith in the remote panel at this point.

All of the IQ Remote secondary touchscreen keypads that work with the IQ Panel 2 have been discontinued, as has the IQ Panel 2 series of panels. If getting another IQ Remote, you would need to look on the secondary market.

The IQ Remote (the last version being the QW9104-840) is the only secondary with a touchscreen that works with the IQ Panel 2+.

With the IQ Panel 2+ you could use the DSC PowerG HS2LCDWF9. This is a push button keypad with a LCD screen. Best used for arming/disarming the system. While we do not stock them, they can be found from a variety of vendors online. There were a couple different versions of that keypad, Qolsys specifically recommends the HS2LCDWF9.

If you went with a system upgrade, and wanted the panel that best mirrors what you have already, you would be looking at the IQ Panel 4 IQP4001.

Secondary panel options for that are the IQ Remote-PG IQR-PG. Similar to the IQ Remote you are familiar with but includes a different speaker set up and works over Wi-Fi or PowerG.

You could also use the newer IQ Keypad. This is a battery operated keypad that comes in a couple versions, the standard IQKP-915 and the IQKP-PRX-915 which works with proximity tags for arm/disarm.

If you do not use, or plan to use PowerG sensors, you could get the IQ 4 Hub IQPH051. It only works with 319.5MHz sensors and Z-Wave devices so the IQ Keypad could not work with it. This would be a lower point of entry over the IQ Panel 4.
