Earlier this week I noticed that my IQ 2+ panel was completely powered down. I tried powering it on only to see it go into shutdown / powering off after showing the Qolsys logo.
I thought that maybe the battery failed so I ordered a new one and installed it, only to find that the issue is still happening. What other troubleshooting steps can I try? Can I still get the panel replaced under warranty or is it too late? Do I need to let the new battery charge for a while first? (I left the panel powered off for at least 1.5-2 hr before trying to power on)
An update here. Trying to boot up with no battery plugged in at all works fine, but plugging one in afterwards will cause it to reboot and then shutdown. Also trying to start it up with any battery installed fails.
I now tried reinstalling the battery and now get a solid red light - does this mean it’s actually charging this time and I should wait a few hours before pushing the button to power it up again?
I’m not sure what the red LED means during power up. I don’t see it documented.
The fact that it boots up and works with no battery is a good sign. It’s been a few hours. What happens if you try to power it on now with the battery?
If it still doesn’t work you might try a hard reboot, which is done by holding the power button (on the side) down for 30 seconds. Use that as a last resort though because it can cause data corruption.
The IQ Panel 2+ has a 1 year warranty so no it’s no longer under warranty.
So if I have the battery connected OR the AC adapter, the panel works fine. However if both are connected that’s when the system crashes and goes into a weird state. I tried starting with the battery connected last night and then plugged in the AC adapter. The system spontaneously shutdown and rebooted and then was stuck on the Qolsys logo for the whole night.
That’s strange if it boots on either but not both.
Try booting up only on AC, then go to Settings > Advanced Settings > installer code > Installation > Installer Settings. Scroll down and turn off Power Management.
Exit out of confiig and reboot the panel. Try connecting the new battery and AC. Same issue or do you notice any difference?
The other step I would recommend after that would probably be a master reset of the panel. That woud be under the same menu path but using the Dealer Code to access Dealer Settings.
It is not possible to downgrade or re-install the same firmware version.
I’ll try that. The one thing I didn’t totally notice is that it will start up but be fairly unresponsive to touches. Sometimes repeating between “Initializing the app” and then returning to the Home Screen, then just shutting down with no LED on after a minute or two. This is why I was thinking potential software corruption.
Just tried the above steps on just AC power and now trying to start the panel again with both AC and a new battery. While showing “Initializing the app” it also shows the “Power off - Shutting down” popup and it just shuts down. I’ll try giving it a bit in case it wants the battery charged up more and I’ll try again but I’m expecting the same result.
Quick update here - it ends up my replacement battery I had found online had a loose wire that came out so that probably complicated my diagnoses. I have a new battery on order arriving tomorrow so I’ll try that when it comes in and update with new status.
What’s odd to me is the old battery passed the battery test when I was able to run it but I guess that particular test isn’t the most reliable?
Ok, thank you, let us know if it behaves any different after a new battery. Do you have a multimeter you could use to test the transformer output at the panel location?
It may be necessary to try a master reset of the panel if a new battery behaves the same way. This would require sensors and Z-wave devices to be re-enrolled however. Settings > Advanced Settings > dealer code > Installation > Dealer Settings > Master Reset
Checked a multimeter - power adapter is 8V at the screws. I also checked the voltage on the original and replacement batteries and both are a tad more than 4V.
I did learn something though. I’ve been trying to source replacement batteries through Amazon and the voltage/wiring is completely wrong compared to the original batteries. However after testing my original battery I don’t think that it’s the problem - there’s something else going on with my panel.
I spoke with Qolsys and they think it’s a corruption on the software that can be fixed with a master reset.
You can access this option by swiping down from the main page > Settings > Advanced Settings > Dealer Code > Installation > Dealer Settings > Scroll all the way down to Master Reset
Are there any tricks for getting the panel to boot? I’ve been having issues getting to even the Home Screen now even if I only have one power source connected.
Try a full power cycle of both the power supply and the internal battery. Leave the unit off for 20 minutes, then power it back up battery first, then power supply.
Hold the button on the side of the panel for at least 5 seconds until the android logo pops up, then let go. Does the unit boot?
Will try this today. In the event it doesn’t boot are there any current discounts on the IQ4 Panel? If I order the panel from eBay instead of through you, what additional steps are needed to get the system working with Surety? Are my sensor settings backed up? I know I’d also have to re-pair my ZWave door locks.
Did the power off for 20 min then reconnect backup battery then AC. Red LED showed up for about 5 seconds then went to a fast blinking green and I see the backlight for the display powered on. Nothing showing on the display though.
