IQ Panel 2 Shutdown During Firmware Upgrade

I got a message from Surety Support a few days ago saying my IQ Panel 2 needs an urgent upgrade from 2.6.3 to 2.8.1. I attempted the upgrade today in accordance with this post: How To Upgrade Qolsys IQ Panel Software.

After choosing “Upgrade Using Network” on my panel I watched it download until it got to 100/100. After it stayed on that screen for about a minute and I walked away to do other things. A few minutes later I noticed the screen was blank but still backlit, and the LED was solid green. A few minutes later I noticed the panel appeared to be powered off and the LED was not illuminated. It’s been powered off with no LED for several hours now.

The post about how to upgrade says don’t touch it if the screen goes black, and to reach out to Surety for help. So I haven’t touched it, and I’m reaching out for help. Please advise.

It’s been powered off with no LED for several hours now.

Did you ever see the screen boot back up at all in between the green LED and how it appears now?

A reboot is normal and part of the update, which is why the screen turned off with the green LED, but your description sounds like there may have been an issue with power application.

Just to clarify, you do not currently see any LED behavior at all? It is not lit red?

Try pressing and holding the power button on the side for 5 seconds. Any activity on the panel?

Can you verify the power receptacle where it is plugged in is working?

If the receptacle is good and your panel is not powering up from the button, unplug the power supply, then open the panel. Take a look at the battery pack inside. Does it show signs of swelling?

I did not see the screen boot back up at all between the green LED and the no LED states, but I also wasn’t watching the panel at the time.

When I wrote the original post I was not seeing any LED at all.

I pressed and held the power button for 5 seconds and the panel booted back up and appears to function normally, although the upgrade didn’t take and it’s still on 2.6.3.

How should I proceed with attempting to upgrade to 2.8.1? Try to same process again? If it fails in the same way, then what?

We can remotely try to trigger a firmware push, or you can try again locally, however I would recommend trying 2.7.1 instead since you just had the failed update.

The patch tag would be iqpanel2.7.1 This version has the important cellular radio update.

Let me know if you would like us to try sending 2.7.1
