This how to is if you have an existing security system and will explain how you can reuse your existing wiring when installing an IQ Panel 4, IQR-PG, or an IQ4 Hub Panel.
Note:
- Doubling the wires up is important especially when you have some distance from the keypad to the transformer
- The IQ Panel 4, IQ4 Hub, IQR-PG, IQ Hardwire Module PowerG, and Qolsys F16 all require their own transformer so you may need a power strip if you’re replacing several keypads.
- The IQ4 Panel/Hub and the IQR-PG have similar looking transformers but provide different voltage. IQ Panel 4 requires 7VDC and the IQR-PG requires 12VDC.
-
Start off at the panel by unplugging the key bus/data wires that go to the keypad
-
Remove the keypad from the wall and disconnect the wires.
-
You should strip back the wire about half an inch on each color wire and twist the four wires into two pairs on both the keypad and panel side. Then cut it to length needed for a better twist connection. I recommend using light colors Red and Yellow for positive and darker colors Black and Green for negative
-
Then mount the keypad base on the panel and make the connections to the base. Then finish mounting your keypad. If using an IQR-PG, you may need to cut the barrel jack connector about 9 Inches from the end and splice your wires together. There should be a white wire with a gray dotted line that shows it’s the positive.
-
Then wire the transformer on the other end of the keypad. This wire may need to be routed away from the panel and to the closest outlet. If not, you may need to extend the wire.
