How to Activate Cam Pro Video Monitoring Rules

Ready for Cam Pro?

Surety Cam Pro (Alarm.com RVM) is a professional remote video monitoring service available from Surety. You can add Cam Pro as an option for the Surety Complete or Protect plan in the system manager here.

With Cam Pro added to your subscription, there are a few steps to complete to begin professional remote video monitoring for your cameras. Monitoring will not be active until all of the following steps are completed.

Cam Pro allows Alarm.com to send video events to Surety’s professional monitoring operators as alarm events.

These events are defined by notification settings within your video analytics rule. Only Surety has access to designate a video analytics rule as one used for Cam Pro. This requires your permission through an enhanced login access request.

During the set up process, Surety will have access to view your cameras unless you disable them from monitoring center access. You can select which cameras on your account are accessible by the monitoring center to prevent access to specific cameras under the Settings > Monitoring Station page in Alarm.com. Do this before giving Surety access to protect your privacy.

To set up Cam Pro for one or more cameras, please follow the steps below:

Step 1. Create New Recording Rules.

Create one video analytics rule for each chosen camera you wish to use, up to the level of Cam Pro you have purchased. Any camera that supports Alarm.com video analytics rules can be selected as a Cam Pro camera.

  • Do not use existing Video Analytics rules. Your new rule will be used for Cam Pro monitoring only. Each camera can have 3 total recording rules saved. One will be used for Cam Pro exclusively.
  • Only Person detection is supported at this time. Vehicle and Animal detection will be disabled.
  • Make sure that the rule is limited by time of day, arming status, and/or detection area so that normal every-day activity from family members will not cause recordings. Any person detection which occurs based on the recording rule’s parameters will generate an alarm event to the monitoring station.
  • The new recording rule will be automatically locked by Alarm.com once Surety designates it as used for Cam Pro. You will be able to pause the rule at any time in Alarm.com, but it cannot be otherwise edited after it is locked.
  • Please include “Cam Pro” in the name of each applicable recording rule.

Step 2. Schedule Activation Time

When you have created one new recording rule per camera that you wish to be monitored, send us a private message here or email support@suretyhome.com with a request to schedule activation of the Cam Pro rules. Include the names of the new rules you need activated.

  • Activating Cam Pro rules requires Surety to view your account with enhanced access to view video and make recording rule changes. Please specify a weekday date along with a one hour window for activation. Activation can be completed between 9am and 4pm Eastern time, Monday-Friday.
  • We will reply and confirm your activation date & time.

Step 3. Grant Access for Activation

Surety will send you a “login with access” request via Alarm.com at the start of your activation window on the date chosen. Please look for this request and accept it as quickly as possible. This will start a 1 hour window of time for Surety to access and review your video recording rules.

  • If there are any Cam Pro recording rules which do not appear limited enough in scope, for example if a ground zone includes parts of sidewalks or streets, Surety will adjust the ground zone or trip wires in an attempt to limit false activations.
  • If there are any Cam Pro recording rules which are not limited enough in scope but we cannot make an informed judgement on how to resolve them, such as interior or front door cameras with a rule that is active 24 hours a day, we may reject the rule and ask you to apply limitations.
  • For all verified & accepted Cam Pro rules, we will enable professional monitoring notifications to our monitoring station within that rule. This will lock the rule.
  • We will send email confirmation when your Cam Pro activation is completed. At that time your rules will be active and your remote video monitoring is all set!
