Get rid of "ask alarm.com to"?

I can say “Alexa, lock the front door” but I can’t say “Hey Google, lock the front door.”

I have to instead say “Hey Google, ask alarm dot com to lock the front door”.

Why? How do I fix this? It’s useless this way.

There is no separate “Skill” which can be used like with Alexa, but I believe people get around this by using routines.

I may have complicated it by using Alexa as an example. All I meant was: every device in my home (except ADC) I can say “hey Google, turn off the porch light” etc.

That can be any kind of a device, made by any vendor. I don’t have to say “hey Google, ask the vendor to turn off my porch light.”

So ADC could integrate that way, too. We should be able to say “arm my system”. Not “ask alarm dot com to…”.

Happy to pass this along. I do not know the precise details, but I mention the way Alexa works with the additional skill because it is impacted by how the APIs are implemented. Most devices and functions only work still with Alexa via the basic Alarm.com skill that requires the “Ask Alarm.com” part.

The second smart home skill which lets you avoid the “Ask Alarm.com” part only supports lights and thermostats, no security critical actions. Secure actions and scenes require the basic skill.

With the Google Home version I think there is a data privacy and security access concern coloring this issue when using the API. I am not 100%, but this is not the first time we’ve sent a request about this.

I am able to execute many commands without the Ask ADC ……

I can turn of lights and thermostats without saying it.

You need the ADC smart home skill which is different than the ADC standard skill

Exactly. If it works with Alexa, why not with Google Home? That’s what I was after: “Hey Google, lock the front door.”

That’s what I was after: “Hey Google, lock the front door.

That does not work with Alexa.

The smart home skill which lets you avoid the “Ask Alarm.com” part only supports lights and thermostats, no security critical actions. Secure actions and scenes require the basic skill (and “ask Alarm.com”)
