Firmware update sticky

Is there a way you can start a sticky or at least something I can subscribe to that details the change log of the IQ4 Panel? I am looking forward to more updates and enhancements vs the lack of them on 2GIG

I believe you used to do this for 2GIG updates in the past

Same Request for new products, sensors, etc that work with IQ4 panel.

My IQ Panel 4 appears to know what the next version of firmware it needs to download, but gets stuck on 0% downloaded. I don’t believe that I have any ports blocked in my firewall, but my corporate-grade malware, bad site, and Intrusion Prevention/Detection may be preventing download. Hence, I ask - can you tell my the URL of where the firmware downloads come from so that 1 - I can whitelist that URL and/or 2 - I can download the firmware directly for myself and use the manual update via access point method if the automatic download does not work?

The firmware is being pulled from Qolsys servers and I cannot confirm the exact URL of the panel download for each version, but that is not likely the issue. It looks like you have a very old version and may be having other trouble. Firmware must be updated incrementally on the IQ Panel 4. Yours can only be updated first to 4.1.1 as the latest version. You can then go to 4.2, then 4.3, etc.

Usually you will want to enter the version patch tags to choose the version you want to download.

Would you like me to remotely trigger an update to the first available version?

Hi Jason,
Thank you for the response, but I decided to test my theory by changing the wireless network connection to my phone hotspot instead of the Cisco-Meraki security appliance and it is now updating as expected. I’ll likely have to run a packet capture on the network to figure out where the Qolsys is pulling the update from and whitelist that. I could always update manually like I am now doing, but that defeats the purpose of the auto-update setting that I had selected. (Though, as we now see, that wasn’t working because of the Meraki blocking.).

By the way, I LOVE this entire set-up, because I can customize it myself with the awesome equipment from Qolsys, the fabulous support from you and Surety and the features at alarm.com. HIGHLY recommended!

Thanks for following up, that’s interesting. I am not sure if Qolsys will be able to offer the file URL but I will reach out and see if they can offer some info.

Automatic updates on the panels won’t get you to the latest firmware versions. Without entering the patch tags of the specific versions the latest ones will generally be unavailable to download for a time. Qolsys sets a specific version as the latest one available when just tapping update using network.

I’ll follow up here if I can get more details, are you able to whitelist the site? They will potentially be coming from dealers.qolsys.com Might be worth testing in the meantime.

Edit: Qolsys support looks like is closed for the holiday, might be a couple days for a follow up.

Hi Jason,
NO problem on follow-ups, thank you! Happy New Year!
I was able to get my system fully updated to the latest using my “relatively unprotected phone hotspot” as you’ll likely see from your vantage.
Simultaneously, I set a whitelist for dealers.qolsys.com as you’ll note (if I’m able to attach a screenshot here) so that next time the auto-update will occur. It does make sense for Qolsys to impose a delay on updates - so as to increase the odds that an update won’t “break” many systems. Nevertheless, auto-updates are very useful so that end-users are not exposed to lingering cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Cheers!

Note (for completeness-sake): I also told the Meraki Security Appliance NOT to block Android devices on that SSID, because I know the Qolsys IQ4 Panel is android-based. Because I’m already up-to-date now via phone hotspot, I won’t be able to test until next update, but I suspect all-is-good now. Thank you and Happy New Years!
