Awesome new alarm.com feature. Coming to surety in future?

I’ll be honest with those prices it’s a cool feature but not worth it to the average homeowner like myself. I was thinking it was going to be like 5,10 maybe even 15 dollars a camera. I’m wondering if that’s why CPI, one of if not the largest ADC dealer here in the Carolinas has it time restricted to I think like 11pm to 6am or something like that otherwise they wouldn’t get any sells. Maybe you guys could do something like that or have two RVM plans? Ones that’s active 24/7 and much higher cost and one that’s only active at peak crime hours like 11pm to 6am for average homeowners. Here’s the link to there page if you want to know more about what their doing:

Here’s a quote from their FAQ: “ Night Guard is configured to operate when the alarm system is in an armed state between the hours of 11:00 pm and 6:00 am. A shorter time frame can be chosen if desired, but the start time must be at or after 11:00 pm and the end time must be at or before 6:00 am.”

So maybe that could further reduce cost having the time frame AND only when system is armed and possibly even only person detections to even further cut down the notifications being investigated

To be quite honest (even though I LOVE surety and am a customer for life after my life and home were saved from an attempted home invasion last year, story somewhere on the forum if you’re bored lol) unless it is as cheap as an add on idk if average homeowners like myself would see the added value (even though I’d love this feature) I’ll attempt to call CPI as if I was interested in switching and see if they will give me some prices but I highly doubt they will lol

Edit: even though I say add on pricing I would be interested to see what you guys would be able to have for the restricted time arm state and person detections only plan. Personally for that type of plan I’d totally get it if it was like $15 for the first camera and $5 for each additional

I agree. Personally, I even think $50-$60 for the first camera is too high.

Yeah, almost certainly.

Setting some limits and constraints that keep the monitoring cost under control seems like the only way. We’re working on it.

As much as I would love to, I doubt we can get that low.

Hi @ryan.boder! I have been paying Deep Sentinel $400 annually (Hub + Two Cameras with two months free for paying annually, instead of monthly). I know my current pricing is grandfathered as I have had the service since 2020. I was planning on switching over to RVM as soon as Surety starts offering it. I am in a new build house and had VC727P cameras installed instead of Deep Sentinel’s PoE cameras. I will most likely want RVM enabled on two or three of the VC727P cameras plus the 755P doorbell. I have visual and hearing impairments which makes having an extra set of eyes on the exterior/perimeter of my house an expense that is justified. From having a guard talk to and identify an unexpected roofing inspector to having the equivalent to Perimeter Guard scare away a couple prowlers before a guard could intervene is money well spent in my mind. I don’t have to worry about checking every notification on my phone because I know I will receive a phone call if it is something that requires my attention, and the police will have already been notified. Having monitored video surveillance during the day also provides protection against porch pirates. This was my original reason for getting Deep Sentinel. They were credited with the arrest of a porch pirate in the next city over from mine after notifying police in real time of a theft. The police made the arrest and returned the package 15-minutes after it had been stolen. (Link to Video)

These are great suggestions and great feedback. Thanks! We really appreciate it.

If remote video monitoring (RVM) were available and affordable, how many outdoor cameras would you have professionally monitored? I’m curious whether we should optimize for something like 1 or 2 monitored cameras or more like 4+ monitored cameras?

Also, would you use Wifi cameras or PoE cameras for this? PoE is more reliable but I’m curious whether people would do the extra work to install them or just opt for WiFi cameras that are easier to install.

I would be monitoring 2 cameras personally, just my front and back yard. Right now that would be 1 POE and 1 wifi (VC-827P and V724x) however depending on when this feature launches they may both be V724x if i get the other front yard angle secured and mounted. That begs the question, will it be possible to change the cameras if needed for example I launch with the poe out front and then move to the WIFI when mounted to allow the full talkdown ability?

You would be able to change cameras but we would have to make the change for you. It’s designed this way, not allowing end users to make changes directly, to protect the monitoring center from being overloaded with events.

There is another similar/related feature just released by Alarm.com called AI Deterrence (AID). Instead of live monitoring center agents looking in and handling security events, AI evaluates the video clip and talks to the potential intruder to try and scare them away.

How does this sound compared to Remote Video Monitoring (RVM)? AID is a paid add-on but it’s a lot lower-cost than RVM as it doesn’t involve live agents monitoring your cameras.

I LOVE THE IDEA OF AID!!! sounds like just what I need!!! What kind of cost are we talking here and how many aid events a month? Any demos of this tech? Also, side note, need a beta tester for this?

I do not have pricing I can offer, but Alarm.com structures the add-on on a per camera basis.

Each level of AID supports 1 camera and 15 events/month.

So 1 and 15 events
or 2 and 30 events
or 3 and 45 events, etc.

Depending on pricing which sounds like it would be significantly cheaper I would 100% do the two camera their for AID

I’d seriously consider switching a family member over to ADC compatible equipment and cameras if RVM becomes available through Surety.

Last night they had someone go into their backyard and look through their windows and back door at around 3:30 AM. Luckily he didn’t do anything, just ran off after possibly seeing one of my family members inside.

They’ve had people snoop around their property and even break into their shed on more than one occasion. Most of the time the lights and cameras are enough to discourage people, but this is one of those situations where it didn’t. RVM really would’ve come in handy here.

Not sure if we’d do wifi or poe. They’ve got a generator and strong wifi throughout the house, so wifi cameras would work pretty well in this case.

Hey Jason! Any update on the availability of RVM and/or AID? For me I am specifically excited and VERY interested in AID since it will provide a similar experience to RVM at a lower cost! Its looking like that might be the route for me. quick question can AID be set up by myself as the end user or is it dealer setup as well like RVM?

I don’t have price or ETA quite yet, but I can confirm that AI Deterrence setup is user controlled within recording rules.

Just to be clear about AID, it’s a similar experience at the camera end but it’s not professionally monitored. The AI would not dispatch police like RVM would. But yes, I agree with you, it’s a compelling middle ground that would cost a lot less.

AI Deterrence is available now if you want to try it.

To use it you need one of these cameras.

  • ADC-V515 with firmware version 0.0.5.549+
  • ADC-V523/523X with firmware version 0.8.2.048+
  • ADC-V724/724X with firmware version 0.8.2.048+
  • ADC-VC727P with firmware version 0.8.2.048+
  • ADC-V729/V729AC/VC729P with firmware version 0.8.2.048+

The firmware is new so you may need to update your camera manually, if it hasn’t already updated automatically. You can add AI Deterrence to your plan in System Manager.

Sweet! Thank you!

Let us know what you think! You’re the first person to try it.

Are you guys still looking into adding RVM? Someone else come by around 3:45 AM and tried to get in through the back door.

We’re definitely going to look for a video monitoring service, but I’m trying to plan ahead as we may be replacing cameras and the alarm system to do so.

Yes, we’re planning to. It’s just taking longer because there are more challenges with it.

YOU GUYS!!! AI Deterrence is awesome for the price. Check out my demo video below. It even knew I was near the door and the clothes I was wearing. Only issue is now the whistle sound loops even for animals but I thinks that’s because I need to have a separate AI deterrence rule which I planned on doing anyway to keep usage low and only at night
