Awesome new alarm.com feature. Coming to surety in future?

Hey surety team! Saw the below commercial from CPI a huge ADC dealer here in the Carolina’s. What is this alarm.com feature that allows this “nightguard” feature they are promoting and will it ever be coming to surety/avantguard? This is so freaking awesome but knowing cpi it increases the bill by a gazillion dollars and you guys do alarm.com right like your slogan says haha.

That’s Alarm.com Remote Video Monitoring (RVM), launched very recently. We’re evaluating it and we really want to offer it! The challenge is they’ve made it a bit DIY-unfriendly. Only dealers can set up the video analytics for RVM. For testing/troubleshooting it helps a lot to be on site. But we’re not on site.

What are your thoughts? How important is this feature you?

Hey @ryan.boder !

Depending on the price point I would VERY strongly consider getting it. The fact that two way voice is no longer limited to the panel is amazing. Living alone it’s also nice because say I let the dog out in the window of guarding (assuming you guys are limiting it to night like CPI) and slip and fall and break a leg, the person trigger the even and they see me laying on the ground they could inquire and get help. Also if you guys need a beta test system I have several of the different compatible models(v622,v724x, and v728p) on my system and also am a systems administrator for a living that could handle troubleshooting and have more IT/electronic knowledge than the average user so if you guys ever want a test system I’d love to help out if that’s a thing

I’m not sure why it would be limited to night time. Obviously if we do end up offering it, we would price it reasonably. We’ll keep you in mind! The big question is, how do we get the video analytics rules set up and maintained remotely with DIY installation?

I thought about that while typing my response. The only way I could see is the homeowner for example sake myself, would have to set up my normal AI recording rules like normal then send screen shots of my interest regions via email or private message so they could be replicated on the RVM side of things? I hope I’m understanding that right or could the rvm and ai be two separate rules. For example my AI rules alert for car, human, and animal but obviously for RVM I’d be more concerned about humans only.

Also for example sake, my v622 I would only want monitored when armed away or in an alarm (because its speaker is much louder than the panel for sure and it sees all my main doors) since it’s inside the house. So curious about that’s functionality as well

That’s a good idea.

This feature is very important to me. I would love it. I don’t view your company being onsite as a challenge. I can be the person onsite and if you need someone more technical I have an IT contractor who does this stuff for a very reasonable price.

BTW the marketing material for this feature also highlight the V729 and V729AC cameras. Are these cameras available and compatible with the latest CSVRs?

I think the NVM feature combined with this camera is Ring killer. We would be able to replace our Ring floodlights.

The V729 is the upcoming floodlight camera. We anticipate info about its release soon, but documentation is not up on Alarm.com’s side yet that I can find.

I heard Alarm.com has these floodlight cameras in stock now. Are you offering them yet?

We generally do not sell new products until they are available through distributors. I do not have an exact ETA of when it will be available, but it sounds like it is probably going to be available within a month or two.

Hi Ryan and @jwcsurety! just curious if there is any new information on a possible launch of the RVM feature on surety? Still VERY happy to be a beta testing customer if needed!

We are evaluating it currently. I don’t have any new info at this time but we should have some soon.

@jwcsurety I am awaiting Surety’s decision on RVM. I setup my video system with the intention that Surety would support RVM. I did not have Deep Sentinel’s cameras installed by my Low Voltage technician on my new build house for this reason. I had eleven VC727P cameras and one VDB755P doorbell along with one CSVR2016P wired and setup. Could RVM be setup with the homeowner onsite and on the phone with a Surety tech being offsite setting up the Rules with Live View. It would allow for realtime testing and troubleshooting. Since this would be a bit more Do It Together, instead of Do It Yourself, Surety could charge a one-time setup fee.

We are currently evaluating and planning out details. I can’t comment on pricing or setup steps at this time yet.

For those interested in remote video monitoring, what do you think reasonable pricing would be? As I said before, if we offer it we would want to price it reasonably. But the costs are higher than the services we currently offer. A well-known remote video monitoring service, for example, is $100/month for the first camera plus $50/month per additional camera. I’m sure we can beat that but if we can’t offer it at a price that people are willing to pay then it’s not worth doing. What are your thoughts on reasonable pricing for this?

What is the price range you guys are looking at? Its hard to compare since other companies that are comparable are not as open as you guys and wont provide information without buying a system from them?

Still negotiating and estimating costs so I can’t give a clear answer yet. There would probably be a higher price for the first camera and then a lower price for each additional camera. Does $100 (first camera) & $50 (additional camera) per month seem reasonable? $80 & 40? $60 & $20? Something lower?

A big part of the cost is that the monitoring center would be frequently handling object detection events and having to look in and make sure everything is OK. That will probably happen multiple times per day on average which is a lot more than with alarm systems.

If you know of any similar services with better pricing let me know. We’re not seeing much else out there right now.

I know which one you’re talking about. Their pricing used to be $60 for the first one and $20 for each extra one, but they increased it a few years ago. I think their $100 & $50 for each additional one is overpriced especially since they use overseas monitoring centers during the night or when they’ve got a high volume of alerts.

I think a good way to look at it is the more the first camera costs, the less each additional one should cost. Something like $50 & $40, $60 & $30, $100 & $20 etc.
