If my son has an apple watch can I put the surety adc app I use on my phone on his watch so that he can unlock the front door from his watch when coming home from school?
Yes, as long as the watch still has a network connection, he can use it to unlock the front door from the watch.

But the link you provide seems to say it won’t work for him because he doesn’t have a phone.

Is the watch associated with your phone?
According to Alarm.com’s documentation on this, Alarm.com on the watch should still be able to operate as long as it still has a Bluetooth connection or a Wi-Fi connection. If the phone the watch is associated with is powered down, sending commands from the watch would depend on whether the watch can maintain a cellular connection.
I’m not sure what their definition of associated is in this instance, but if he isn’t physically carrying my phone on him then the watch obviously wouldn’t be in range to connect to the phone via Bluetooth or WiFi.
I’m working on getting some more details from Alarm.com regarding this, but some smart watches can communicate with another device as long they both have an internet connection. They wouldn’t need to be near each other or on the same Wi-Fi network.
Based on what I’ve read so far, you may be able to do the initial Alarm.com setup for the watch using your phone and have it work independently afterwards, but I want to get confirmation on that first.

Well this sucks…doesn’t look like it’s possible at all.
Apologies for the delay. I got a bit more information regarding this, and it looks like at this time, there would not be a way for you to control it on an Apple Watch without another device.
I can send feedback to Alarm.com requesting that they make improvements to standalone capabilities for the Apple Watch if you’d like.
I have a Series 9 (GPS + Cellular) with cellular service to the watch.
I can turn off (power off) my iPhone (Air w/ latest iOS) and still arm/disarm the system along with controlling doors locks, garage door & thermostat from the watch.
Only attempted while in the house after seeing this thread, haven’t tried when away from the house.
