Zooz ZEN12 Motion Dimmer (800LR) – Initial Testing w/ IQ/ADC (Pre-Production Unit)

I wanted to share a quick update on a device I’ve been testing that may be of interest.

Zooz was gracious enough to send me a pre-production Zooz ZEN12 Motion Dimmer (800LR) and have started working through initial testing with the IQ Panel 4 / Alarm.com as well as other platforms.

Below is part one of a two part video series on this upcoming Zooz product:

So far, from an ADC/IQ perspective:

  • The device includes without issue and functions as a dimmer
  • Basic on/off and dimming control behave as expected
  • Motion and Lux based sensor functionality exists at the device level, but is not exposed within Alarm.com workflows
  • Scene/multi-tap behavior is similarly not available within ADC (I wonder if this will resolve with production firmware)

This is still a pre-production unit, with Zooz targeting a mid-April release, so behavior may change before final availability.

If there are any specific questions, just let me know. I’ll be installing this in my home for a 2 week real-world test and reporting the results in a follow up video. Stay tuned!

Updated Firmware retest

Zooz released a firmware update (0.5) and I had a chance to retest the ZEN12 on IQ 4 / ADC specifically.

The good news: the firmware fixes resolved several issues I noted in the pre-production testing, and overall ADC behavior improved significantly. The dimmer and basic device functions were previously solid; but now direct associations and scene control seems to be fully functional!

The IQ 4 / ADC segment starts at 20:39 if you want to jump straight to it.
