On my iq4 panel, occasionally my Z-Wave sensors just start to drop offline. This is fixed by a reset of the panel but can be quite annoying. I have had it happen several times. Not quite sure what is causing it without taking Z-Wave sensors off one at a time and trying to fix it (and even then, since it happens so rarely it would be hard to do this one at a time and be assured that it won’t happen again a month or two down the line). When this first happened I thought it was my whole home energy sensor that I had hooked up through Z-Wave (2nd gen aeotec), so i removed that. The problem got better. But unfortunately something is still causing my z-wave devices to periodically go offline. Since it only happens periodically, sometimes once every month or two, it is very hard to troubleshoot what is causing the problem. Thanks.
I keep having the same issue! Can someone provide some guidance?
Could you try swiping down from the main screen > Settings > Advanced Settings > Installer/Dealer Code > Installation > Devices > Z-Wave Devices > Z-Wave Settings > Z-Wave Frequency Region > Select United States Long Range and press save.
Let us know if it was already set for long range of if the issue continues even after selecting this option
Thank you
Mine was already set for this. I wonder if it is another z wave device on my network causing the issue. I know the issue was exacerbated by the older gen2 whole home energy meter.
I’m not showing any offline/malfunctions presently. When the Z-Wave devices fall off, is it the same device(s) that report offline, or is it always different devices?
Have any new devices been added to the network since removing the aeotec meter?
No. Nothing presently is offline. Strangely, and maybe by coincidence, it happens more when I’m away from the house. It doesn’t seem to any particular ones that go offline. But when i get the notification that one device is offline, I know a bunch more notifications are coming. Last time(when I was out of town) I kept remotely restarting my system and it allowed the devices to come back online for a short period. They seemed to continue to go offline several times a day… the last time I had something go offline was July 20th.
Whether or not you are physically present should have no impact on the status of the Z-Wave devices.
Losing one device can create a cascade effect if that device is crucial to network communication.
Would you say that most of these devices listed in the image are:
- farther away from the panel than others devices
- farther away from other repeating nodes than other devices that dont have this issue?
I’ve never paid attention. Those devices (in the pictures) aren’t particularly far away from the hub but they all are on the same side of the house. Next time it happens I will pay attention to what device loses connection first.
Its possible that losing one of them is causing the rest to fall off.
Z-Wave commands jump from node to node (up to 4 hops) through the mesh network. Z-wave devices that are plugged into power (not battery only) act as repeaters allowing you to carry the signal farther. If one of the closer nodes goes down, others may follow.
Next time you see this happen, check Z-Wave Diagnostics found under Z-Wave Diagnostics in System Tests. This will bring up a network map. This may help pinpoint the culprit.
