Hi all,
Hoping someone can help me out with this odd issue I’m having.
I have a Yale real living touchscreen deadbolt that I purchased a Z-Wave module for that is giving me strange issues. I’m able to get it added to my Z-Wave Network but was blowing through batteries in a week.
I found I should have learned it near my panel then moved to its location and rediscovered Network, which I did not do. In attempting to do this is when I experienced odd issues with the lock.
When I go into the Z-Wave menu of the door I am only given an option to exit the wireless network and if I do so, sometimes I’m able to get the device removed from my network but usually the lock gives me an “enter user code” message, followed by pound, and the screen shuts off.
After several factory resets which are successful, as the default master code is reinstated, I am still not presented with the proper Z-Wave Network options of adding or removing from a network.
In the short time the door lock was properly communicating and functioning with my panel, I was successful in locking and unlocking through the app or website and panel itself.
I’ve now uninstalled the lock set from the door in an attempt to get this learned into the panel next to it, but I’m not getting any prompt on the lock to add to a Z-Wave Network, even after a successful factory reset with the Z-Wave module in the lock.
I purchased a new push button yale real living deadbolt that I had zero problems with getting added to the network, it’s functioning great and after several weeks I am still at 97% battery life.
Hoping I can get this issue remedied and working similarly.
Prior to the factory resets I added a Z-Wave plug module to enhance my mesh Network as this lock was the only Z-Wave item in my basement. Nearly directly below the panel however.
Yes, the ZWave module has been removed with batteries out, and reinserted. I may have also removed it at some point before removing the batteries as well. To be honest I’ve been messing with this thing trying anything for the past few days.
I know I had factory reset the lock with the module both installed as well as not installed, if that matters?
I was just able, while doing what you asked, to get the lockset to “remove” from my panel, though it wasn’t a recognized device, and it showed on the panel as a “foreign node”.
Just trying to really clear anything out.
However, when going back into door lockset menu, > 7 for zwave, I am still only presented with “3” to exit wireless network, pressed # to continue, then get “user code registration, press # to continue” and screen goes black with no input.

That is strange. It sounds like it is prompting you to register a new Master User code at the lock. That is the first step generally after powering a new one up.
After factory resetting were you prompted to register a new code?
Absolutely, after each factory reset I had to reset the master code.
The lock wouldn’t let me perform any procedure prior to changing the code. So I’d change the code, it’d go through it’s process, then I’d attempt to configure the Z-Wave network.
What’s odd as well is that I had this paired to the panel and it was working. The reason I felt I had an issue is because I’d continually lose connection and it was blowing through batteries. After some quick reading on this forum, I found I should have learned the lock in near the panel, which has brought me to this point.

In addition to the proximity issue, this may suggest a general issue with the Z-wave module in the lock.
The way you are describing the lock’s menu doesn’t make sense with that user code registration prompt.
So, going through the menu, you can select 7 and the lock actually says “Wireless network module settings” and you can tap 3 and the lock says “Exit the Wireless Network” ?
Then when you select # to continue it shifts to another programming menu item? That is suggesting a module failure or lock failure, and if factory reset is not resolving it I think the next step would be trying a new module unfortunately.
Just to be 100% sure can you confirm the exact model number of that lock?
I agree it seems the Z-Wave module is the source of the issue.
I need to try to work with Nelly’s security who I ordered that module through. Unfortunately I ordered it several months ago when I moved homes but only recently, within the past month, installed it; hopefully they will work with me.
Correct and yes to your menu option choices.
I select 7, it says wireless network menu settings, I press #, it only shows me the number 3 and states automatically “exit the wireless network press pound to continue”. I press #, the numbers are displayed on the screen as if a successful command was entered but it verbally says “register user code press pound to continue” but screen is blank.
Then press my hand on the touch screen, the numbers appear as if to unlock the lock or enter the master code for menu access.
