Window Open Door Sensor Flase Alarm

Hello,

Since yesterday 2 gig panel is alerting window open false alarms. We have 2 up stair windows with wired door sensor, which is connected to 2 gig via the take over module. I checked the sensors and magnets on both the windows and don’t see any issue. Also today morning when I called monitoring station line they told last contact they received from my system was 3 days back. But I am able to get all the events in my phone through alarm.com. Please provide some inputs on how to tackle this sensor false alarm issue. Also what could be the reason for no signals to monitoring station for last 3 days but signals to alarm.com works fine.

Thanks.

To answer this one quick first, the alarm event for the window sensor referenced shows as a “Pending Alarm.” What this means is that Dialer Delay is enabled for that sensor in programming.

Dialer delay is a programmed delay after an alarm is tripped by a sensor before that signal would be forwarded to the Central Station for response. If the system is disarmed during that delay, no alarm signal is forwarded.

We typically do not recommend dialer delay unless you have a zone that causes numerous false alarm concerns due to how it is used. You can disable dialer delay by accessing system configuration in the installer toolbox, navigating to the zone in question (zone 5 in this case), and scrolling down to Dialer Delay. Mark it as (0) disabled.

With this being a hardwired sensor, a couple things are most likely the issue:

  1. Check the wiring at both the sensor and the Takeover module. If the sensor is constantly reporting open and cannot close it is very likely a broken or loose wire.

  2. Check for corrosion on the wire at both the Take and sensor, though it is more likely to be seen at the sensor end. Corrosion can lead to broken wires, but just corrosion itself will increase the resistance on the circuit making it appear open. If you have a multimeter to test resistance on the circuit, you could verify this pretty quick.

I will check on these things evening. If the take over module battery backup is weak, will it cause this issue? I know that is weak if so I can replace the battery since it is 5 yrs old. Which battery is good, should I buy 12V and 5Amp one?

No, a low battery would not cause a sensor to report open. This is likely a physical wiring concern.

If you do have an old battery connected, yes, you would want to replace the brick battery with a 12VDC 5AH battery.

Today I noticed that when I operate a fan switch it trigger window open alert. But that is not a consistent behavior. I went out and alarm was armed away. When I came back I opened the garage door using the garage door opener on car and alarm went on luckily monitoring station called me and I explained the situation. Any suggestions on where to look for this issue. I don’t see any corrosion on the sensor wires.

Are you able to test the resistance on the window sensor zone? You would want to use a multimeter to test.

If the resistance is somewhere above 3kohms, this could cause intermittent issues. Do you have a resistor wired into that circuit? If so you can simply remove the resistor. Does this get rid of the false activations?
