I really enjoy the Alarm.com ecosystem. It is simple to use and integrates with most of the things I use at home. My residence has a gate at the driveway. I would like to find a video intercom system that integrates with alarm.com.
Use cases:
1-Delivery hits the button, my phone app can see who is at the gate and I open the gate from the app. Ideal if I can also see it on the 2GIG pad inside the house.
2-I can give a code to a repair person that is coming to the house that day while I’m not home. They press their code on the keypad and the gate opens.
Any recommendations on gate keypad hardware that would be compatible?
I’m not showing any Alarm.com compatible devices that offer both video with intercom and gate control.
Video doorbell options exist but aren’t really meant to be installed at a gate. Most camera options are going to require a cable run for power and sufficient Wi-Fi at the installation point. The VDB755P is a doorbell camera that can be powered via PoE. It would have 2-Way voice and control through the app and live view on the 2GIG Edge. None of these offer gate integration or control.
LiftMasterSecurity+2.0 gate operators are compatible with MyQ technology and can be controlled through the Alarm.com website. Remote control of these gate models through Alarm.com only requires the LiftMaster MyQ Internet Gateway (828LM). This cannot be controlled through the mobile app or at the panel.
You might be able to use the 755P at the pedestal. Its typically meant to be installed under an overhang, like you would typically find at a front door. Something similar may be needed for weather, etc.
The Linear Controller is not meant for gate control. It connects to the garage motor’s two push button terminals and uses the paired tilt sensor meant for sectional garage door status. I could not say definitively if this device could be used to control a horizontal gate out of the box. I should think that if the gate has an input like a garage opener does for a activation, it could work. As it is Z-Wave, the controller would need to be within range of the Z-Wave network for communication.
Do you know if I move to a business plan to support access control features, do I lose any residential features, such as zwave, residential locks, lighting, climate, etc?
You wouldn’t lose any major features. You would still have lock, light, and thermostat control. There may be minor user interfaces features you like that are different in business plans since that’s designed for and intended to be used by businesses. In general the business plans are more capable than the residential plans.
Is there a specific feature you care a lot about? We could check on that to be sure.
