Video Cam Security

I am thinking of adding some exterior video cameras for the first time. However, I am concerned about the security of the camera feed itself. Presuming they operate through home wifi, they sound inherently insecure to me. How do you make sure your camera feeds are kept secure? Or are my concerns off base here?

Thanks,

Jim

The 720/720W/721W outdoor cams are either wireless IP or PoE. If you are worrried about wifi connectivity, then invest in a network SVR. They run approx $500-$600 for say the base 1TB - 2TB.

I myself focus more on interior surveillance, and have both Image sensors (which use cellular communication, and do background captures) and IP cams.

Wireless versions do not support POE. You can hardwire with a patch cable though if you do not wish to use wireless. However, in that scenario I would just recommend using the POE version (V720).

For wifi versions, the camera feeds would require randomized credentials created by ADC upon setting up the camera. Additionally, in a typical setup, unlike many remote access video solutions, you do not need to open ports on your router for access. The cameras reach out to Alarm.com, and the camera feeds are then pulled by you from ADC, you do not need to access the cam.
