I installed a VDB750 yesterday. Everything seems to be working fine, except that when the doorbell rings, and the (IQ2) panel asks if I want to answer, and I press “yes”, it takes a long time for the Panel and doorbell to connect (5-10 seconds). I don’t experience this delay when connecting to the doorbell with a mobile device, so I don’t think it’s related to Wifi connectivity (I have about 75% signal strength).
I updated the panel firmware to the latest, but that didn’t seem to help. Any suggestions? Or maybe this is normal?
I am talking with alarm.com currently, they are asking if you could test the doorbell again by pressing the doorbell and answering on the keypad and seeing if it loads faster
Can you test your internet speed (both upload and download speed) at the panel and the doorbell and let us know what they both are?
Your Wi-Fi and internet look solid. I’ll ask around a bit to try to find out what delay would be considered normal for your your doorbell and panel to connect. Could we check a few more things?
Your doorbell is on a 5GHz Wi-Fi network. Is your IQ Panel on the same 5GHz Wi-Fi network? (same SSID and frequency) It’s best if they’re on the same Wi-Fi network.
Is there a similar delay when you just view the view on your IQ Panel? As in not when the doorbell rings but just viewing it on the panel’s video page?
Is there a similar delay when you answer the doorbell in the Alarm.com app instead of on the IQ Panel?
What happens if you uncheck the Speed up remote connection initiation setting? And/or if you reduce the Image Resolution?
Yes, the doorbell and the panel are on the same SSID and frequency (5GHZ).
There is essentially no delay when I initiate a connection to the doorbell with my phone or iPad (less than one second).
Perhaps I have a setting wrong, but the ADC app on my phone/iPad doesn’t present the opportunity to “answer” the doorbell in the same way the panel does. I do get a notification that the doorbell has been pressed, and I can then initiate a connection (which happens quickly, as described in “2” above), but the app doesn’t have the same “answer” option button that the panel does.
I tried various combinations of the “Image Resolution” and “Live Video Connection” options, but none of them made a noticeable difference.
I should add: I also experience the same 7 second delay when I initiate a connection between the panel and doorbell (not just when I answer the doorbell).
Some delay is to be expected when using the Live View feature between the camera and the panel.
If you have not already done so, remove the connection between the panel and camera through Alarm.com by navigating to Video > Settings > Stream Video to Panel. Disable and Save.
Reboot the panel. Settings > Advanced Settings > Panel Reboot
After 5 minutes has passed, and the panel has rebooted, re-enable the Stream Video to Panel. Wait 5 minutes then test. Any change?
When working on your system, you may want to place your 24/7 professional monitoring account on Test Mode during troubleshooting to avoid any false dispatches.
You can do this by calling monitoring operators directly at 855-348-0367 or from the Test My System tab in the System Manager section of your Surety account.
Just to add another perspective I have the VDB750 on the iq 4. I have always had 7 second connection time to any camera - doorbell included - from the panel.
From the app, I usually see <2 seconds for the doorbell or any other camera if my phone is on the same wireless ssid . If my phone is on a different vlan, doorbell varies 2-5 seconds on app, and other cameras are about 2 seconds.
Similar wireless - elaborate all UniFi 5Ghz network. Cams and panel on dedicated IOT vlan/SSID etc. (my phone is usually on a different vlan/ssid)
I just assumed this is how it was (since my previous ADT system was actually much slower) but if it could be faster from the panel for that doorbell that would be awesome.
It takes about 7 seconds to open live video on my IQ Panel as well. I’m asking around to see if that’s the baseline of if there is any way to speed it up.
Thanks Ryan. Do you happen to know if the POE version of the doorbell connects faster? Or is the delay a function of the panel (which I suspect, since the IOS app connects so quickly)?
