VDB750 installation wire connectivity issue

Hello forum,

I am installing a VDB750 but experiencing connectivity issues with the wire. After installation, when I press the doorbell against the bracket, it will boot up. However, as soon as I release the pressure, it will power off. Here are some additional details:

  • When I charge the doorbell with usb cable, it powers on with no issue
  • If I keep pressing against the doorbell to the wall, it stays on
  • The wire used to power a Skybell Slim, with no issue

I also attached some pictures of my installation, please advise. Thank you!

It kind of looks like the upper contact tab on the base is bent back a little. If the metal on the base doesn’t touch the metal on the doorbell it won’t get power.

Is it possible to bend it forward just a little so it sticks out more and makes a solid contact with the doorbell when you mount it?

Hi Frank. Thank you for your response. Unfortunately it did not work even after I bent the metal outwards. I believe they are sticking out enough because there is almost a small “gap” caused by them sticking out. What other adjustments can I try?

It seems like those contacts aren’t connecting reliably, right? If it works when you press it down but not when you leave it alone then it seems like the contacts are disconnecting when you leave it alone.

It’s hard to tell why from the pics. Is the base bent or broken somehow? Is there any reason you can see why those contacts aren’t connecting reliably?

It is difficult to tell, but it looks like the bottom of the doorbell is off the surface of the wall a bit more than the top and the back plate may be bowed or twisted a bit. Is there a bit lumpier texture under the bottom of that doorbell in that spot?

If the back plate is bowed in at the middle then it would be harder for the power terminals to connect. It would result in power application only when putting pressure on the doorbell.

Thanks @jwcsurety @FranklyMyDear I will try again this weekend when I get back in town. Will let yall know how it goes!

@jwcsurety @FranklyMyDear Hello. Thank you again for advising solutions for resolving the connectivity issue. However, a tight installation of the skybell is limited by the wire length poking of the wall. I believe I will have to rely on an experienced Surety technician to extend the wire. Do you know anyone I can contact for such service? I am located in zip code: 78704.

Best,
Ruoqi

Surety is a DIY Alarm.com service provider. We do not send technicians to homes, all maintenance is performed by the owner. There are installation companies that may be able to help.

I can help with instructions and recommendations.

From your previous image, it looks like the back plate can be moved up a half inch or so and be mounted higher. That would give some slack on the wires and may alleviate issues with the backplate. Then connect the back plate by both a top and bottom set screw. Looks like only the top one is currently used. Any improvement in power application?
