My VC730P is behaving oddly during the morning transition from night vision to daytime mode.
As soon as there is enough ambient light for the camera to leave night mode, the image changes from normal black-and-white night vision to a very overexposed/oversaturated black-and-white image. It then remains that way for roughly 1–2 hours before finally switching to normal full-color daytime video.
Interestingly, this is about the same time my VDB775 doorbell and V729AC both transition directly from night vision to full-color daytime mode without any issues.
Today I tried changing the Night Vision Sensitivity setting from Medium to Low, but it didn’t appear to make any difference.
Has anyone seen this behavior on a VC730P? Is this a known firmware issue, or could it indicate a problem with the IR-cut filter or light sensor? Are there any other settings I should check before requesting a replacement?
I reached out to Alarm.com and they said this is an issue that they’ve recently discovered with this specific model of camera and are working on a fix for it via firmware update.
They should announce once that fix has been implemented and the firmware is being rolled out. I’ll keep an eye out for it and follow up if we receive any updates.
In the meantime, if anything changes with that camera, please let us know.
Thank you. I just got a follow-up from Alarm.com on this today. They’re working on additional changes via another firmware update, but in the meantime, they recommended a few steps.
First, can you try turning HDR off, then back on? You can find the setting under Video > Settings > Select Camera > Video > Image Settings > HDR (High Dynamic Range).
