Using existing power line with ADC outdoor camera

I’ve moved into a new home with some remnants of an old security system. There is a cable (connected to no device) running from above the front door, down into the basement and seemingly connected to power. See my image.

Is there any way I can use this to power the ADC external camera? Or will I need to run the included power cable along the same route and find a regular outlet in the basement?

You may be able to reuse the cable but you need to make sure you know what you’re doing. What gauge is it? How long is it? Is it still in tact and not broken somewhere?

You still need to use the transformer of course.

You can often reuse existing wiring to connect a new power supply and power a device, but that depends on the device you need to power, the length of the wire, and verification that nothing else is on that circuit.

You’ll need a regular outlet anyway still, the camera must be powered using its included transformer.

For camera power, I would assume that wire in your image is not sufficient. You’ll generally want 18AWG cable to ensure proper power application if you are extending the power cable. That wire looks much thinner to me and there don’t appear to be additional conductors that you could double up.
