Thoughts on mounting a 2gig PIR outside under a soffit to monitor trespassing in a fenced in backyard? Would this significantly shorten it’s life? Would it cause several false alarms? Thoughts appreciated.
I’d advise against it. You’re likely to encounter problems in each of the areas you pointed out. They aren’t built for the weather conditions and they’re likely to cause false alarms. There are outdoor motion detectors on the market for use cases such as this (an example is the 5800PIR-OD), but we currently do not have any on our site. I’ll touch base with our team to see if that is something we might be able to add down the road.
