Use garage tilt sensor in automation

I purchased the QS1131-840 Qolsys IQ Tilt-S - Wireless Garage Tilt Sensor but can’t figure out how to make an automaton triggered by it (eg: turn on the zwave garage lights when the door is open after sunset). Am I doing something wrong? Using IQ4 panel.

Do I need a contact sensor as well? If so, what’s the point of the tilt sensor?

All you need is the tilt sensor. Do you want an automation or just a notification. If you want an automation do:

Automation > Rules > Add New Rule > Event-triggered Rule

Under When this event occurs pick Sensor Activity.

I don’t see sensor activity as an option:

And these are my sensors (tilt isn’t shown):

Huh. That’s weird. It’s not showing in the new rules builder. The same thing happens on mine. Try it from the Alarm.com website and use the old Event-triggered Rule instead. That’s working for me.

There are a couple things the New Rules Builder does not have that are still available in the legacy rules setup on the website. Another example is offsets to scheduled sunset/sunrise actions.

I believe this is why the old rule setup is still accessible since the new builder does not quite have parity yet.

Just confirming that if you login to the website and use an Event Triggered Rule under Automation > Rules > Add a rule, you should be able to select the Tilt Sensor.

Yes, I see it from the website but have to click Legacy Rule Builder or something. Thanks for that.
Related: Is there a way to get a notification and/or text if my garage door is left open for some duration (eg 30 minutes?) I’m not seeing a way to send notifications?

Please disregard the about notifications…it’s a separate section. Doh!

Yep, for all readers finding this question it will be under Notifications in Alarm.com, you can create a “Sensor Left Open” notification for it which lets you select a time period for it to be open before sending a notification.

Where can I find the legacy rule builder? I was looking to do exactly that (offset from sunset action) and can’t seem to find it?

Thanks

On the Alarm.com website, under Automation > Schedules > Add New Schedule > Light Schedule (don’t choose the New Schedule Builder)
