I just bought a SEM to attach to a ADT branded Vista-20p.
I was told it was compatible. The prom says 2005-4.2.
Now I’m finding that this means that “uploader/downloader” functionality will not be available.
I have no idea what that means. Will it work? What exactly is the functionality that I will be missing?
It looks like I can buy a prom from alarm.com for $26. Can I do this after setting everything up?
- If you have a newer UL/DL compatible SEM connected to a Vista-15P or 20P panel lower than revision 5.2, the panel functions the same as an older legacy SEM, with the exception of being able to communicate over broadband on the new one.
- To get all of the enhanced functionality (such as access to uploader/downloader settings), the Vista panel must meet the minimum revision number.
This limitation causes your dealer to have fewer back end resources to help with panel programming, but the SEM will still communicate panel status etc.
Replacing the prom should resolve the UL/DL issue if you use a new prom. It must be for the exact model, so make sure it is a Vista 20P prom.
Your panel also currently shows this error: Master User Code failed to sync. Change the Master User Code at the panel, using the Installer Code.
Thank you, Jason!
I’d seen that text but wasn’t sure exactly what the UL/DL features are that I’m missing.
I had no issue getting the system set up and working and will reset the user code at the panel.
I get very quick notifications from the system to the web portal and alarm.com app.
Why didn’t I switch years ago?
I may upgrade the PROM to enable the Ethernet port. The unit is near my router.

Ethernet should work without the Prom, sorry the wording of that was a bit off in the ADC documentation.
The documentation is comparing legacy SEM’s inability to UL/DL settings to the newer SEMs, and also calling out that the newer SEMs also have dual path as the difference in how it would behave vs a legacy SEM.
So to clarify, the dual path should work as is.
