Unexpected activity alerts - something changed

Has anyone else noticed lately that the algorithm for unexpected activity alerts seems to have changed, and/or is malfunctioning? This started about a week or two ago (for me at least).

Examples -
I get alerts about unexpected activity that doesn’t exist - like a window being left open that is currently closed, and was last open more than 12 hours ago.

The other night I got an alert about a garage door being left open, but it was actually closed. (and was visible in the ADC app and on my panel as being closed.)

I now get an alert most mornings around 615am that a certain door was left unlocked; but I have the system setup to auto-unlock when the alarm is disarmed (usually around 530) and stay unlocked until the alarm is armed. Been this way for 1.5 years and normally I never get an alert about that… until now. (and this is roughly our schedule M-F so it should be expected, I’d think.)

I’m sure there are more but this is only what I can remember. I’ll start tracking it better if useful. But, I think some algorithm must have changed in the ADC cloud. Just curious if others are seeing this. Thanks.

so I’m “new” - and I haven’t noticed differences in the algorithm.

that being said - I had the feature on, but had to turn it off.

we’re creatures of habit - every morning after the system is disarmed we open (the same) windows, and typically leave them open until we go to bed and arm the system.

the system would constantly alert me that windows were opened, left opened, etc - even though the behavior shouldn’t be unexpected.

I left it on for about a week to see if the system needed to learn what was unexpected and what was not - but it didn’t seem to figure that out.

seems like a really great potential feature - I hope ADC does some work on making their system smarter when trying to determine what’s unexpected.

It used to be absolutely awesome - with no false or delayed alerts. Something is definitely very different.

Actually just now leaving for the day - I got these alerts which are funny, since the system is programmed to lock this door when the alarm is armed. So how is this unexpected, when Alarm.com itself is who commanded this door to lock? Also, we leave every Monday at the same time, so this entire arming action is far from ‘unexpected’. It also alerted me twice?

Whatever they did to the algorithm they need to revert, imho. It’s a shame.

I have not noticed this kind of behavior on my system, but that is definitely unusual to have a rule triggered, frequently used automation result in an unexpected activity notification. I am forwarding the feedback to Alarm.com for review.

Did you make any specific account changes shortly before this started? New devices, rules, etc.?

Hi, I thought I was the only one but thought it was just an update but I’ve been getting those notifications too for activity that isn’t even unexpected, like many of them per day.

I wish I had tracked the onset of this more carefully to answer your question fully. But in recent weeks I’ve added a zen16, one pg9945, and upgraded to 4.6.2. (In that order over weeks of time). If I had to guess it was around the time of the 4.6.2 upgrade but could have started before that. But I see other claiming the same so I think it may not be just me. Not sure.

Thank you.

No worries, just lifting every stone. Anyone who is experiencing this issue, would you mind posting some date and time stamps of unexpected alerts that shouldn’t be unexpected occurring recently? Alarm.com is asking for as many examples as we can give to help investigate.

For me, it’s whenever I get the alert regarding a door lock being left unlocked and then restored. I get those alerts plus simultaneously I’ll get those unexpected activity push notifications of the same event.

Would you mind providing the dates and times of a couple of those events that were unusual for unexpected activity alerts?

As many examples as possible that we can point to will be helpful. Also, do you recall when this first started?

The funny thing is when I go to my activity page, they don’t show up, but I do see the push notifications but I have noticed is wherever you see a door lock left unlocked or restored alert, those pop up

Edit: here’s one of the notifications and right after when I closed it a got the restoral plus duplicate unexpected activity of the restoral of the door lock

I’ve been closely monitoring this for the past 4-5 days (since I last added to this thread), and I have had no more instances of erroneous unexpected activity alerts!??

Almost like it was quietly fixed in the background.

I’ll keep an eye out and update here if it happens again. But before this, it was multiple times a day and was very noticeable. Thank you.

I have not heard a follow up yet, but it is possible that ADC resolved the issue in the background, yours was the primary account on the ticket because we had timestamps for example events.

here’s one of the notifications and right after when I closed it a got the restoral plus duplicate unexpected activity of the restoral of the door lock

I’ll reach out to ADC and let them know about these and give them this timestamp example. About how long have these extra unexpected activity notifications related to door lock activity been occurring?

i re-enabled the alerts - and got some this morning that are not unexpected.

when we’re home, when i wake up - i open the same 3 windows every morning, and leave them open until i go to sleep. i often also open sliding back doors after i’m up for a bit - and leave it open until just before i go to bed.

this morning at 1019 / 1020 / 1023 - i got 3 alerts that the 3 windows were left open, and another that the family room right sliding door was left open.

FWIW- I get those same alerts when a window or door is left open, but I always have and considered it normal. If it isn’t let me know and I can send time stamps of instances. (In our case leaving a window or door open is not an every single day kind of thing.)
