TS1 Firmware

HI, I am just preparing to flash my Vivint panel.

There is a TS1_Part1_V1.8.5 file and also a TS1_Part2_V1.9 file in the V1.9.6 zip file, do I need to run both for my TS1? Thx.

Generally we would recommend flashing a newer version. 1.9.6 is the oldest firmware in our archive and is the bare minimum for AT&T 3G modules. A lot of additional tweaks and compatibility has been added since then.

You should be able to go directly to 1.13. (do not try to go directly to 1.14.01, we have seen issues with that on firmware less than 1.10.)

Since it is an old (non-CP21?) Vivint panel, I would further err on the side of caution and do this (these panels run custom firmware variants, and were never meant to go above 1.9.6)

Remove power from main panel and TS1, power it down.

Update TS1 to 1.9.6
Update CP to 1.9.6

Power up, make sure everything works, do a cell test, *wait approx. 1 hour (for any updates/provisioning to occur DEFAULT THE PANEL Q CONFIG SO THAT THE FIRMWARE UPDATER RECOGNIZES IT AS ‘2GIG GoControl’) then power down TS1 and main CP.

For unlocking/defaulting Vivint panel see:
See: https://suretyhome.com/forums/topic/using-panel-previously-locked-out/#post-25137

From this:

To this:

Update TS1 firmware to 1.13
Update. Main panel firmware to 1.13

Power up, verify all works, then cell test, (*wait hour for updates/provisioning)

Then repeat for 1.14.1

*If you interrupt the update/provisioning you may brick/damage panel/TS1

Thanks for the info.

Mine is a Go panel from Vivint from 3 years ago, not sure whether it is CP21 or not.

Couple more questions

  1. When power down, the battery needs to be unplugged as well?
  2. So, this goes back to my original question, in the 1.9.6 zip file, there is a TS1_Part1_V1.8.5 file and also a TS1_Part2_V1.9 file, do I need to run both?
  3. After the update, you said to wait an hour until the provisioning to occur, how would I know it has occurred? Do I have to plug the usb cable and see it from the firmware software or I can check from the panel?
  4. 1.9.6 should suffice without needing to go higher?

Thanks

1) When power down, the battery needs to be unplugged as well?

Yes

2) So, this goes back to my original question, in the 1.9.6 zip file, there is a TS1_Part1_V1.8.5 file and also a TS1_Part2_V1.9 file, do I need to run both?

The first thing you will want to verify is the current firmware version.

1.9.6 is in fact over 3 years old now. I would not recommend using firmware that old or flashing it. The only issues we have really seen with firmware updates are physical issues (bumping, letting the cable loosen) and problems going directly to 1.14.01 from pre-1.10.1 versions.

1.8.5 I believe was necessary for certain older versions prior to flashing 1.9. I’ll need to verify with 2GIG but they do not support updating to anything that old at this point.

3) After the update, you said to wait an hour until the provisioning to occur, how would I know it has occurred? Do I have to plug the usb cable and see it from the firmware software or I can check from the panel?

If you are connecting to suretyDIY service immediately following the update via cell test, then this applies. If you are not connected to cell service yet, it does not.

4) 1.9.6 should suffice without needing to go higher?

We would always recommend using newer firmware. Panels of course worked on 1.9.6, and would work with our service, but the answer to a lot of issues/compatibility questions are typically “update firmware” if firmware that old is being used.

Thanks Jason.

My vivint panel currently has 1.9.6 on it.
I will go directly to 13 and see what will happen.

By the way, do I install the cell module first and then flash or flash without a cell module? Thx.

It does not technically matter regarding the cell module, but given its location it is often easier to run the update with the module removed.

Hi, where is the port in ts1? I removed it from the wall and don’t see it.

The TS1 requires the 4-pin male to male connector included with the cable. The four pin terminal is near the base of the board near the middle.

Instructions can be found starting on page three here.

Make sure the slotted side of the cable connector faces up toward the top of the TS1.

Thanks Jason… flashing… keeping my fingers crossed.

On a TS1, just make sure the cable stays very still. Try not to touch it at all during the update

Ok, both flashed successfully. I just ran a cell phone test but failed, anything I did wrong?

May just be too quick if your panel just powered up. Give it a moment and try again.

Already 10 mins.

It says “Waiting for CS to response”.

BTW, the Vivint logo still on the panel, is that right?

In order to further troubleshoot, let’s verify a few things:

  1. Check the firmware now on the main panel, what version does it report?
  2. Check to make sure the antenna is plugged in and not loose.
  3. Make sure you are using the new antenna that comes with the 3G module.
  4. Did you swap the module to the 3G module?
  5. Did you swap the module with the panel powered on? (you shouldn’t, battery must be unplugged too) Try power cycling, then run test again.

Thanks Jason. I was using my old antenna and it was loose and after power cycle, the cell phone test just ran successfully. So the panel looks good now.

I just tried to arm thru alarm.com and it wasn’t working, I guess it takes some time? Many thx for you help.

There is an initial command template which is sent upon connecting. Allow 15 to 20 minutes before trying to test other functions. Your commands will go through, but they will probably be delayed and it is best to hold off and wait for the template to set. This template opens all programming, defaults installer code, etc.

Looks like everything is good now. Hurray!

Couple more questions.

  1. The Emergency button. There is a panic, fire and emergency option. Do they all call central station first?
  2. When a smoke detector is triggered, does it call central station even it is not armed?

Thanks again.

All signals go through Central Station if you have 24/7 monitoring.

The Panic, Fire, and Emergency functions send an appropriate signal to the CS who then contacts authorities.

Fire alarms from smoke detectors are forwarded to CS regardless of arming state, yes.
