Troubleshooting or upgrading?

Hi

We have some technical issues that we are experiencing with our camera at our current home. We currently have one ADC-VC726, which is working well, and three ADC-V720 models that are causing a lot of problems.

While the app indicates the ADC-V720 cameras are online and they continue to record triggered events, we are unable to access the live view. On the app, we receive a “There was a problem connecting to the camera. Please try again.” error, and on a browser, the status remains stuck at “connecting to camera.”

Because of these issues, we are considering upgrading the ADC-V720 units and have the following questions:

1. Which upgraded camera models support a “plug and play” replacement for the V720? I am looking for a compatible version that can simply be swapped into our current setup without needing the most advanced model on the market.

2. Is a panel upgrade required if we decide to upgrade these cameras?

Thank you

It looks like this is a POE camera. The only POE cameras we have on our store are below

These can replace your current cameras

Cameras run independently. They are most likely connected to a POE switch or a POE injector. Depending on that, you will be able to just disconnect your current camera and connect this new one. The security panel does not need to be updated.

Thanks, prior to removal of old cameras and install new cameras. Do I need to do anything on the app like remove the old cameras from the account and install the new one after installing?

I’m unsure if it’s all done automatically

Camera pairing and deletion is not automatic.

Cameras are deleted from the Video tab in Alarm.com. From the ADC Website, select Video > Settings > Select the camera you wish to remove > Remove this Device.

Similarly, after installing the new camera and connecting it to the network, you’ll need to associate that camera with the Alarm.com account. This is also done via the Video tab in Alarm.com. You can choose the camera you wish to add and the wizard should walk you through the pairing process.

If you have any questions about pairing/installation, let us know which camera you are working with. Cameras sold through Surety should have installation instructions linked on the store page.

When upgrading from ADC-V724x to ADC-V730, I noticed that the 3 mounting holes from 724x do not line up with the 730. This is silly as the mounting bracket and camera size is very similar but there is a need to drill new holes. Any feedback on this?

Also, the power supply on V730 is calling for 1.5A and the 724x is 1A… Have you guys tested if it is possible to reuse the 724x power supply on 730 to avoid having to re-route the new wiring.

I do not have any information on why there was a change with the mounting holes, but it could have something to do with stability when the camera is mounted to surfaces that may slightly shift, move, or expand under normal operation.

As for the power supply, we haven’t tested the V730 with the V724x power supply, but it would not be recommended regardless. Even if it does operate with the old power supply, since the V730 can use more power than the 724x, it can cause additional wear on the existing power supply over time, which can lead to damage and/or premature failure of the power supply as well as the camera.

Hi Vidail,

Following your suggestion, I am planning to upgrade from the V720 to the V730p.

Do you know if the V730p uses the same mounting holes as the V720? The builder installed a junction box for the original camera, but if the V730p requires a different hole pattern, is there a specific mounting plate or adapter needed for the installation?

Unfortunately, the mounting holes between the two cameras are different. There is a back box available for this camera but we do not have it in our store. You may be able to find them from other distributors. Below are the model numbers:

  • ADC-VACC-MNT110
  • AM-71D

One is the back box and the other is the back box cover.

Let us know if you have any other questions

If I have a box for my current V720, does that need to be replaced as well along with the plate? I was hoping for a simple swapping of the plate, and I’m not sure if it’s easy to switch the box. If I do need to replace both item, is there any video instructions that I could watch to DIY?

Here are how 2 of my v720 is installed. They were installed by builder.

I am seeing that the backbox is shared for the V730 is share between these cameras:
V724X, VC727P, VC728PF, VC827P, V730, and VC8295P. The V720 not on the list so I cannot say it would work with it
