Last week I received a low battery warning and I ignored it of course as the thermostat was working fine. Today I went to replace the batteries thinking all was good but on my 2GIG controller the error was still there. I removed the node and now I can’t get the thermostat to be recognized by my controller.
It also removed it from the web interface.
I reset the AC unit and turned on discovery mode on the thermostat and then go to the control panel and try to add the device though its not found. This panel is downstairs and there are no power outlets near it to remove the panel to get it closer. It paired without an issue the first time and now its like it blind.

The panel can be run on battery and brought close to the Z-wave device you are looking to add.
You always want to learn in Z-wave devices (aside from the Alarm.com RTS) in close proximity to the controller. It is necessary otherwise you will likely have some problems down the line.
The proper order for learning devices:
On panel: Services - Z-wave - Wrench - Installer Code - Add Device. The panel will start listening. Then perform the pair procedure on the T-stat. (It sounds like you might be doing the opposite order)
It is possible, but how did you remove the original T-stat?
Z-wave devices save their parent network link, so to add one into a network after it was used previously, you would need to perform a “Remove Device” prior to being able to add it.
Services - Zwave - Wrench - Installer Code - Remove Devices - Then perform the pair procedure on the T-stat. This will clear the network link it saved in the device itself.
Make sure to try Remove Device first. Then Add Device. If you remove it through the flashing malfunction alert it will not clear the parent network link.
