The nami Pod Pro Upgrade Is Now Free for Early Adopters

We’re improving the nami early adopter deal. When we announced early access, early adopters were promised a discounted upgrade to the Pod Pro when it ships, planned at $49. That upgrade is now free.

If you already bought a nami Agile Security System, you don’t need to do anything and you won’t be charged for the Pod Pro. If you’ve been waiting, the nami Alarm 15 Starter Kit is still $129 and now includes the Pod Pro upgrade at no cost.

What the Pod Pro Adds

The Pod is the hub of a nami system. It has the siren, the status indicator, and the Wi-Fi motion sensor, and today it reports alarms over your home internet.

The Pod Pro adds Alarm.com cellular dual-path: a continuous, independent cellular connection alongside your broadband. That’s the piece that keeps the system armed and monitored when your internet goes down, and it’s the difference between a system that depends on your ISP and one that doesn’t. We expect the Pod Pro later this year.

Cellular dual-path was the one real gap in nami during early access, and it’s the reason we structured the deal around a Pod Pro upgrade path in the first place. Early adopters shouldn’t have to pay again to close that gap.

Why We Changed It

The $49 was already a discount, and the Pod Pro isn’t a small piece of it. It isn’t a standalone accessory you bolt on, it replaces the current Pod as the hub of the whole system. But early adopters took a chance on a brand new platform, ran it in real homes, and sent us feedback we couldn’t have gotten any other way. Charging them anything to finish the system felt like the wrong way to say thanks.

There’s a practical reason too. We’d rather every nami system in the field end up on dual-path than have some customers skip the upgrade over $49. A monitored alarm that can’t reach the monitoring station isn’t doing its job, and a free upgrade is the surest way to get everyone there.

What Happens at Full Launch

When the Pod Pro is released, the starter kit price goes up to somewhere in the neighborhood of $200. The $129 price is the early adopter price, and the free Pod Pro upgrade goes with it.

So the deal right now is: pay $129 today, get the current system, and get the cellular hardware for free when it ships. After the Pod Pro launch it’s roughly $200 for the same thing.

Monitoring doesn’t change either way. nami runs on our regular month-to-month plans at $19/month total, no contract and no cancellation fee.

The Rest of the Details

Everything else about early access is unchanged and still documented on the nami product page:

  • Alarms currently report over Wi-Fi and broadband only. That’s what the Pod Pro fixes.
  • No local Z-Wave yet. Home automation works through Alarm.com cloud integrations today, including Schlage Encode locks, LiftMaster and Aladdin Connect garage doors, Ecobee and Nest thermostats, and Lutron and Deako lighting. A Z-Wave bridge is expected.
  • Most customers are up and running in under 30 minutes, with step-by-step guidance in the Alarm.com app.

If you’re already running nami, we’d like to hear how Wi-Fi sensing is behaving in your space. If you’re on the fence, ask here and we’ll help you decide about whether nami or a traditional Alarm.com-compatible panel is the better fit for your home.
