I received an IQ hub with my home and it is locked with another company. I have already spent a significant amount of time trying to get the panel unlocked, but they have ultimately refused since I was not the original owner of the system. Can I replace the Verizon SIM card and take it over that way?
Unfortunately no, swapping the SIM should not be done and will not make a difference. The panel communicator is linked to its ADC account by the IMEI number of the panel communicator, not a SIM card number.
Swapping the SIM can only result in a locked SIM and the communicator will no longer work. It won’t unregister the panel.
If the original owner still had a contract with that dealer and never cancelled it, typically only the original owner would be able to resolve the issue and cancel service with the dealer. Once the Alarm.com account tied to the panel is cancelled, the IMEI can then be used through another dealer.
In situations like this I would first recommend contacting your realtor to help facilitate communication to try to get the original owner to cancel that account, since the system was sold with the home.
If they are unable or unwilling to help, a replacement panel would be needed. You could then use the existing sensors and automation devices with the new IQ panel.
Yeah, I already have spent a few months on this trying to get ahold of the previous owner, calling the current provider, etc.
So I already swapped the SIM and now it is showing up like this. Is the panel basically ruined now?
I am seeing a lot of discourse that says it is easier to just end up replacing the panel. However, is it not possible at all to replace the components necessary internally to get it working again? Even if it wouldn’t save me any money, at this point I am just curious how these panels are made to operate.
The SIM card is not meant to be swapped, it is tied to that panel.

Most of the parts are not made to be replaced , nor does the manufacturer repair them. The only parts that have replacements available are the:
- Power Supply
- Internal Battery
- RF Legacy and PowerG card
