Smoke/CO Detector - wired power/Qolsys 2+ Panel

Are there any smoke/CO detectors that are hardwired for power(battery backup) that I can connect up with my Qolsys 2+ panel wirelessly?

If so, product names please? If not, is there a reason?

TIA,

-Greg

Typically, you convert wired interconnected smokes into wireless via one of two ways with Qolsys. Either with a Interlogix Fire Fighter (SLX-AD-T3) which listens for the alarm cadence from the wired interconnected smoke. Or via the Hardwire 16-F that supports 2-Wire smoke detectors.

However, those options only work for wired smokes, they do not work for carbons or combo detectors.

Why is anyone’s guess. There is a 2GIG 345MHz version of the FireFighter that can listen for both Smoke and Carbon cadences, just nothing for 319.5.

So my “why” question was more about is there some technical reason that you can’t have a smoke detector powered by hardwired electricity and also have a z-wave radio that could be used to connect to Qolsys panel?

To me it seems like it would make sense to have the smoke detector hardwired for power, so you don’t have to worry about batteries dying but also have it hooked up to your alarm system wirelessly, right? I guess no manufacturer agrees? lol.

So what are some good battery powered smoke detectors that I can use with Qolsys?

To clarify, Z-Wave life safety devices are not supported by Alarm.com. The above response refers solely to RF sensors.

As for why a hardwired sensor that communicates wirelessly doesn’t exist? I could not say. My guess would be cost prohibitive.

If using the Qolsys IQ Panel 2+ with the RF 319.5Mhz radio, you could use a number of wireless sensors. Essentially anything that communicates across the 319.5 MHz band or PowerG sensors.

  • The Qolsys IQ Smoke (QS5110-840) Battery life 3-5 years
  • The Qolsys IQ Carbon (QS5210-840) Battery life 3-5 years
  • DSC PowerG Smoke PG9926 Battery life 8 Years
  • DSC PowerG Smoke/Heat PG9936 Battery life 3 years
  • DSC PowerG Carbon PG9933 Battery life 5 years

Battery life are estimates under typical use.
