Skybell with Alarm.com - Who handles the support

Just wondering who handles the support if I end up having problems with a Skybell? Does Suretydiy/alarm.com handle it or do I have to go directly with Skybell? Reason why I ask is that they banned me from opening new tickets since I kept complaining about an issue and had to get their VP of customer support involved. Someone on their helpdesk banned me and I could never get it resolved by the time I switched over to Ring.

If you are using an Alarm.com Branded Skybell, support would go through suretyDIY and Alarm.com. Only the Alarm.com Branded version is officially supported.

Typically you will want to contact the seller of the product when an issue defies repair and get warranty replacement. Did you order directly from Skybell?

Not yet. I’m planning on switching over to DIY in a few months once my contract is up. When the time comes, I’m more likely going to order from Suretydiy as you appear to be the most knowledgable DIY vendor. Just debating if I want to move over to self monitoring. According to a conversation I had with alarm.com, they told me to get an alarm.com branded one due to some special firmware.

My experience from before was with Skybell directly. This was long before the Skybell/alarm.com partnership.

How does skybell works with alarm.com, I have both isntalled in my home but didn’t know they can be intergrated…

Off the shelf Skybell/Skybell HD do not work with ADC - you must have the ADC branded version (it has ADC firmware).

Correct. If you intend on integrating the SkybellHD with Alarm.com, you need the Alarm.com branded SkybellHD.

You also need Alarm.com Video Service enabled on your account for the ADC branded Skybell HD to function.

Hey Tyler,

I will be ordering a Skybell from Surety. How do I go about adding video service to my monitoring?

Thanks!

To add ADC Cloud Video to an existing account, send an email to customerservice@suretyDIY.com. They’ll be happy to get you set up.

Thank you, Jason.

One other question. I have been looking at the Skybell and Ring Pro for a while now. I know that Skybell offers free storage. What is the advantage of integrating Skybell with ADC vs going with the free Skybell service? And similarly, what is the advantage to the ADC integrated Skybell over Ring Pro?

Thanks!!

  • Smart lock integration (unlock door while in Skybell call)
  • Video clips integrated with rest of ADC video clips
  • Motion sensor can trigger other actions through ADC

System and video access in one app. Controls within the video feed for door locks. Video opens within app, so you can disarm or do whatever is needed and return to feed all within the app.

Video is linked to your Alarm.com Cloud Video account, so notification of video recordings can be sent. Manage settings through ADC.

And similarly, what is the advantage to the ADC integrated Skybell over Ring Pro?

It is not ADC compatible so an app would be needed, so all the above as well applies. Functionally, we do not support the Ring Pro. Ring Pro looks like it requires a monthly fee for recordings.
