Skybell HD motion not working

I have the motion settings to high on alarm.com for my skybell hd, but for the life of me, I cannot get it to detection motion from a distance. Only once the person is right next to the doorbell does the motion kick in.

Anyone else experience this issue?

It would be greatly appreciated to understand why it’s not working correctly.

Thanks,
Robert

This will depend on the distance you intend. See the Skybell HD product sheet. The PIR is only intended for use up close, with a max range of 8 feet.

Even @ 8 feet (on high) it’s hit or miss.

The weird thing is that when cars drive by (over 25 feet) it will trigger motion…

But when someone is 8-3 feet away… it doesn’t trigger.

Well, depending on the PIR detector in question, left-right movement does tend to get picked up a little easier than movement directly toward a device, though at short range that should not matter much. Do you have a recipient selected for the motion schedule? Signal quality may also impact reception of these schedules if you are having trouble connecting in general (from other thread). Just to verify, how high is the Skybell HD mounted?

Skybell HD is about 4-4.5 ft. off ground.

I confirmed with Time Warner my signal to noise ratio was 39… not sure if that is good but she said it was “in the green”.

One thing Skybell mentioned is that the environment may be the culprit… I do have two pilars in the front of my house and they were saying this could be causing issues (see screenshot). Do you see this being a potential issue?

i do wish that alarm.com would interface with Ring Pro as it appears the Ring Pro has superior motion capabilities. Any idea if Ring Pro will ever be added?

How can i get the head on motion to work better, I want to be able to capture someone walking up to my door.

See this response. Please contact your Alarm service provider for device diagnostics.

We’ve not heard anything about this, no.

What direction does the Skybell face? Given the rather open horizon in that shot I could see sunlight playing a factor with a PIR.

Is there any pattern to when the motion detection works? Is it more likely to function at night? In the morning? etc.
